Yesterday's rain meant 3D couldn't spend much time at the farm. Instead we looked at flowers that we found outside, with a magnifying glass, then had a go at drawing them. Did you know that almost all of the flowers we looked at had an uneven amount of petals.

School Captains and Aboriginal students attended the Sorry Day Healing Ceremony hosted by the City of Banyule. Great experience.

The Year 2 Recyclers have set up compost bins in all of the eating areas as well as the canteen.
We also have chook bins and soft plastic bins. It's amazing how little rubbish we now have in our landfill bins.
Next up is recycling the 10c items.
Coming soon! Watch this space!

F1B had a busy day. In S.T.E.A.M we went outside and drew the path of the sunrise and sunset at different times of the year to find out that in Summer the days are longer and in Winter the days are shorter!

Today our Streeton Grade Prep, One & Two Chefs learned about Autumn season root vegetables. We learned to cut our sweet potatoes lengthwise and paint them with olive oil to roast. We then learned to chop herbs finely & mix with sea salt to sprinkle. We had a lot of tiny chefs dining in the kitchen with knife & fork. Some people ate a whole roast potato with the skin on! It was great see students trying new vegetables! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ

But the best part of the farm today was this little gem that greeted us in the morning. The very first egg from our new chooks. The kids wanted to know which one had laid it!! ๐คฃ

Good Bug or Bad Bug was the focus of Farm this week. We watched a video to help us identify pests in the garden. Then we went to the garden to see how many we could find, good or bad. Some interesting bugs were a ladybird larvae, a giant green caterpillar and heaps of aphids. Instead of pesticides, we net our crops and we also made an organic pest spray out of dishwashing liquid, oil and water.
