Earlier this week, our junior school students celebrated 100 Days of School! 🥳

Reaching 100 days of learning is such a special milestone, and we are so proud of everything our students have achieved so far this year. They have learnt, grown, and gained so much confidence already, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store! 💙

Our 2-4 students are getting ready to dive into Charlotte’s Web! 🕸️📖

To launch the unit, our students created their own woven spider webs in a hands-on activity, supporting fine motor skills, encouraging mindfulness and sparking plenty of excitement for the learning ahead. We are so excited to see where this wonderful novel takes their learning! 🕷️

What does it really mean to educate the whole child?

At Lower Plenty Primary School, we believe education is about far more than academic achievement. It's about developing confident, capable, compassionate young people who are curious about the world, think independently and love learning.

This article shares why we've embraced a Montessori-informed approach within a Victorian Government school, combining the best of Montessori philosophy with explicit teaching and the Victorian Curriculum to create an education that truly lasts a lifetime.

Whether you're already part of our community or you're exploring schools for your family, we'd love for you to have a read and let us know your thoughts.

💙 Because every child deserves to be known, valued and inspired to reach their full potential.

More than a century ago, Dr. Maria Montessori envisioned a world where every child, regardless of their background, location or demographic, would have access to an education that nurtured their full potential.

What if the next big idea started in primary school?

This week, our Year 6 students continued their Future Founders journey, discovering that every great innovation begins with noticing a problem.

From Airbnb solving the challenge of paying rent, to Netflix rethinking late fees, students explored how some of the world's biggest ideas started with a simple frustration. They then turned their attention to problems they see every day.

💡 How could we make it easier to return library books?
💡 How could we help families reduce electricity use?
💡 What real problems can technology help solve?

More importantly, students learned that innovation isn't about having the "perfect" idea. It's about asking questions, listening to others, testing your thinking and having the courage to share your ideas.

Next week, they'll begin designing and building their own solutions—and we can't wait to see where their creativity takes them.

At Lower Plenty Primary School, we're not just teaching students to use technology—we're empowering them to become thoughtful problem-solvers, entrepreneurs and changemakers.

What makes a small school different?

At Lower Plenty Primary School, it's the relationships. Every child is known by name, understood as an individual and supported to grow academically, socially and emotionally.

In a smaller school setting, students are more than just a number. Staff know their strengths, interests and challenges, allowing us to provide personalised support and meaningful learning experiences that help every child thrive.

This video explores why families choose a small school community and the difference it can make in a child's educational journey.

MOONLIT SANCTUARY EXCURSION 🚌

Today, our Prep–3 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary! 🦘🐨

Students explored the sanctuary, learnt about Australian wildlife, and had the opportunity to get up close to some amazing animals. We loved seeing their excitement as they discovered and connected with the natural world.

What happens when we trust children to become independent, capable and responsible learners?

At Lower Plenty Primary School, families recently joined us for a special Montessori Information Evening featuring internationally recognised educator Gavin McCormack. Gavin shared insights into how Montessori education supports children to develop independence, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

This short video captures one of the key messages from the evening – that responsibility is not something we teach through words alone, but through giving children meaningful opportunities to practise it.

Thank you to Gavin McCormack and everyone who attended and continues to support our vision of providing an education that lasts a lifetime.
