Putting study into practice at the Winton Hub.

Lucy is studying a Master of Speech and Language Pathology, and recently used the Winton Hub to complete a clinical swallow assessment as part of her studies.

And every good clinical assessment needs a patient! Sophie’s mum kindly stepped in to help Lucy complete the task. 😊

Having access to a local space means students like Lucy can complete practical components of their studies with the facilities and technology they need, without having to leave their community.

A great example of study happening right here in Winton.

Meet Diesel, the newest member of the CUC RAPAD CWQ team! 👋

At GroWQ Innovation Expo, we asked local and visiting school students to help us come up with a name before the CUC team selected their favourites.

And we have a winner!

A big thank you to Sienna from Winton, who suggested the winning name — Diesel.

Diesel was already hard at work in the Longreach Hub this morning, exploring the facilities and considering where study might take him next. 📚

National Science Week was a fantastic opportunity to bring new experiences to Winton, Boulia and Longreach, and it wouldn't have been possible without the organisations and people who helped make it happen.

A huge thank you to the CSIRO Mission Operations Centre team, WQ STEM Hub, Inspiring Australia Queensland, UniSQ, the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, and the Winton, Longreach and Boulia councils for helping make National Science Week 2026 such a success across our region.

What a way to finish National Science Week as the Mission Operations Centre arrived in Longreach! 🚀

Friday was a massive day, with more than 80 kids heading down to explore the visiting Mission Operations Centre (MoC) and get involved in the virtual activities with the CUC RAPAD CWQ Longreach team.

There was plenty of curiosity and excitement as students stepped into our VR experiences, explored space and technology, and then headed inside the MoC to see it all up close.

Bringing experiences like this to our regional communities gives young people the chance to see, try and explore opportunities they may not otherwise have access to, right here at home.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us - what a fantastic way to wrap up a big week of science across Winton, Boulia and Longreach! 🚀🪐

What an amazing day with the Mission Operations Centre in Boulia! 🚀

Boulia State School students and staff came along to explore the Mission Operations Centre (MoC), getting a closer look at the galaxy, satellites and the science behind space.

Things became a little competitive when Miss Kavanna and Miss Eden took on the students in the Rocket Launch challenge! Six students joined the action, shooting amongst the stars and aiming for a landing on the moon. 🚀🌙

There were also plenty of curious minds at work, with students putting some great questions to the visiting engineer, about all things space.

It wasn't only the school community getting involved. The MoC also welcomed young families and international travellers passing through Boulia. A great example of how experiences like this can bring science and curiosity into our regional communities.

What a brilliant day for National Science Week in Winton! 🚀

CUC Winton set up alongside the visiting Mission Operations Centre (MoC)today, welcoming local school students to get involved, have a go and explore something a little different.

Students stepped into a virtual space experience with our VR headsets before heading over to tour the Mission Operations Centre truck and learn more about the technology, teamwork and science behind space missions.

There were plenty of questions, plenty of excitement and some great reactions to the VR experience!

We loved seeing students getting involved and making the most of having an experience like this right here in Winton.

A fantastic day of curiosity, learning and hands-on science and judging by the smiles, it was a hit! 🚀
