The first research article that was published from from this project, 'The lived experiences of autistic teachers: A review of the literature' (StEvens, 2024), has been garnering growing readership from around the world, helping to highlight this important subject and inspire researchers around the world to begin investigating the lived experiences of autistic teachers in their own countries!

I am so excited about the prospect of the second paper from the Autistic Teachers in Australia project being published, as it will be the first time that the voices of autistic teachers' in Australia will be showcased in research literature!

Research matters, it really does help to manifest positive changes in society 😊

Autistic teachers seem to excel at inclusive pedagogy... maybe this is the reason why?

Love this.

Our research project examining the lived experience of autistic teachers has found that neurodivergent students benefit from having openly autistic teachers, who can show them that they can be successful and fully functioning members of the community as adults, which helps to counteract the negative deficits-based view of neurodivergence that is perpetuated by the medical model and is the dominant view held by neurotypical people in society.

A beautiful reminder from our friends at Reframing Autism about the importance of giving Autistic young people access to the Autistic community. We are very proud to provide Autistic-led mentoring to more than 2000 young people each year.

An appropriate reflection for Autism Acceptance Week.

Can schools really be inclusive if autistic teachers are not accommodated?

The coding of all the collected data has been finalised! Just one more week of analysis and then it is time to write up the findings 😁

To all those who participated in the research project, you will be emailed a brief synopsis of the findings before publication.
If anyone else would also like to be mailed these initial findings, please provide your name and email address to researcher Cat StEvens through the 'contact' page on the website:
