Understanding makes a difference!
Dyslexia is neurobiological in origin, meaning we have differences in our brain structure and function, which typically affects phonological processing, which is just a fancy way of saying our brains are ‘wired’ differently to what is considered ‘normal’ and this can lead to difficulties with reading and spelling.
It didn’t come about because we didn’t try hard enough.
It didn’t happen because we weren’t read to enough as a child.
And, it definitely didn’t come about because we weren’t smart enough!
Dyslexia is NO one’s fault!
We just have a different and unique way of thinking.
In fact it helps us to problem-solve in ways that others might not think of, so you could almost say our thinking is dystinct!
So be proud to be dyslexic, because after all, how will the world’s problems and challenges be solved if we all think alike!

This is VERY common. Many children wth dyslexia use their strengths to develop coping strategies that hide their struggles. Dyslexia hasn’t stopped many highly successful people from achieving great things.
Dyslexia does NOT affect intelligence, but intelligence can mask dyslexia.
Many of us develop different coping strategies, which often covers the fact that we’re not ‘failing badly enough’ for anyone to suspect dyslexia.
Early identification and intervention is essential!

Do you know someone who could use some extra support with English or Maths? I have limited spaces available this term.
All lessons are an hour of 1:1 explicit evidence based teaching. Not just for those with a diagnosis, open to anyone who could use some extra support.

Amazing!
Did you know that Cher was diagnosed later in life with dyslexia and dyscalculia?
Cher struggled all through school and left school early thinking she wasn’t as smart as everyone else.
Little did she know there was a reason for all her struggles, eventually discovering she was dyslexic after having her own child assessed.
Cher never let these challenges stop her and she went on to become the icon that the world knows and loves today!
