Coastwide, our Family Day Care service provider, is running a little competition across their FDC services, inviting children to create a picture inspired by things they might find at the beach.

With our little learners being younger in age, we decided to tailor the experience to suit their abilities and interests. Together, we created a beautiful collaborative piece of art using some of the things we might discover at the beach or beneath the ocean.

We’re now in the running to win a special book ready for Book Week! 📚

Dental Health Week 🧸🩺💛

This week the children will explore health and wellbeing through our Dental Health Week dramatic play experience. We’ve intentionally designed this environment to build on the children’s interests by including not only our focus on dental health, but also extending into a doctor’s surgery where they’ll care for their teddy bear patients. Through this play, the children will engage in conversations about healthy habits, empathy, and caring for ourselves and others.

🌿📚 Celebrating NAIDOC Week through nature, creativity, and storytelling. ❤️💛🖤

This week, our children explored and celebrated the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through a range of hands-on, age appropriate experiences.

Our activities included:
Nature painting
Creating natural homes for Australian animals
Mud art

These experiences encouraged creativity and curiosity fostering respect, appreciation, and a deeper understanding of Australia’s First Nations cultures.

Today, the children found a tiny baby snail all on its own. Using a sandpit scoop, they gently picked it up and worked together to create a little home for their new friend, Bunny the Snail.

A beautiful moment of teamwork, kindness, and learning to care for the world around us. 🌿

⚖️ What is Heavier? ⚖️

Our little scientists explored our “What is Heavier?” station using balance scales to compare different objects and discover which were heavier or lighter.

Using play laptops, they recorded their findings like real scientists. Through this hands-on activity, children developed problem-solving, observation, and early measurement skills.

It was wonderful to see their curiosity and teamwork as they tested predictions and shared discoveries.

🫧🌿 Extending on spontaneous play!

After bubble play became a daily favourite in our environment, today we utilised a range of resources and natural elements to create our very own bubble wands. By incorporating items from nature and reusing available materials, the children were able engage in simple concepts of sustainability and caring for our environment.

The children were incredibly attentive throughout the creation process and absolutely delighted to discover that their handmade wands really did, in fact, work! ✨

Today, we participated in National Simultaneous Storytime 📚✨

H kicked off the excitement by counting down as the numbers appeared on the screen, eagerly waiting for the story to begin. Together we listened to Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller before moving into some activities inspired by the book.

We talked about what the word movement means to us, and each drew a picture to represent our ideas. It was lovely to hear the children’s different interpretations - R said push ups, P said big stretching, and M said play Daddy, all showing their own unique understanding of movement.

We then explored some Luna Roo colouring pages. It was wonderful watching the children carefully trying to match the colours they remembered seeing in the story or creating their own variations. Their focus, observation skills and creativity really shone through during this experience.
