🌈🎉 EKC COLOUR FUN RUN – THIS FRIDAY! 🎉🌈

The countdown is almost over! Our East Kimberley College Colour Fun Run is THIS FRIDAY, 4 September, and we’re getting ready for an awesome afternoon of colour, slime, food and fun! 🌈💦

📅 Friday 4 September
⏰ 2:45pm – approx. 4:00–4:15pm
📍 Starting at the school canteen

🪣💚 FIRST UP… SLIME THE TEACHERS! 😂

We’re kicking off the afternoon by SLIMING OUR TEACHERS! We have some very brave teachers who have put their hands up to take part… but who will actually get slimed? 👀😂

👕 WHAT TO WEAR
Wear a plain white or light-coloured shirt so all those colours really stand out! White Colour Fun Run shirts will also be available to purchase in a range of sizes.

🍕 THE P&C CANTEEN WILL BE OPEN

Come down before the run and let us take care of afternoon tea! We’ll have:

🥧 Party pies
🌭 Sausage rolls
🍕 Pizza pockets
🍦 Ice creams & icy poles
🧃 Juice boxes & cold drinks

💰 THERE’S STILL TIME TO FUNDRAISE!

⚽ What a day at the Garnduwa Girls' Soccer Carnival!

Five teams from three schools across Kununurra and Wyndham came together to play. The carnival was all about giving girls across the East Kimberley the chance to get on the field, feel proud and have a go at something different.

🏆 Congratulations to EKC 2, our grand final winners! The team took home individual medallions and a signed Matildas jersey, donated to Garnduwa by Katrina Gorry.

⭐ A big well done to Queenie from Year 7, who won the award for most goals scored across the carnival.

A huge thank you to the team at Garnduwa for putting this together. Our girls had a brilliant day! 🙌

Our Student Council is running the cupcake stall to raise money for R U OK? If your child would like one, please send them with $2.

The idea behind R U OK? Day is a simple one. Asking a genuine question, and taking the time to hear and acknowledge the answer, can mean more to someone than you'd think. 💛

Vale Mr Rod Baker

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Rod Baker's passing.

Rod was Principal at Kununurra District High School, now East Kimberley College, from Semester 2, 2011 to the end of Semester 1, 2015.

He is remembered for his leadership, his kindness and the lasting positive impact he had on students, staff and families during his time here.

Our deepest condolences to his wife Gail, his children, family, friends and colleagues.

We've got you covered! The canteen will have plain white shirts available to purchase in a range of different sizes perfect for getting absolutely COVERED in colour! 🌈

🩺 Allied Health Drop-In Clinic in Kununurra

WA Country Health Service is running drop-in clinics every Wednesday morning. No referral or appointment needed, just turn up!

If your child needs a hand with talking, understanding, hand skills, sensory processing, feeding or movement, the team is there to help.

What's available:

🔹 Physiotherapy
🔹 Speech pathology
🔹 Dietetics

🔎 National Science Week at EKC!

Our secondary students dug into this year's theme, Seeds of Science, with hands-on investigations across every Science classroom:

🌱 Year 7 tested helicopter seeds and what makes them travel further
🫘 Year 8 looked at how different nutrients affect seed germination and plant growth
🔥 Year 9 explored how smoke and heat affect native seed germination
🔬 Year 10 visited the GSG Cotton Gin for a tour and a close look at genetically modified cotton seeds and cotton production

Our Year 10K class also worked alongside our AIEO's to start a native seed garden around the new yarning circle. We can't wait to see this space grow! 🌿

Book Week is nearly here, and we can't wait to see who turns up as who! 🧙‍♂️

Our 2026 Children's Book Week Costume Parade is on next Tuesday. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character, and that includes secondary students who'd like to join in. 🪄
