Repost: 💡

💡Your new home is sealed tighter than any your grandparents built but the code that seals it also makes the wall stay open to water vapour, so the moisture your family makes can dry outward instead of condensing inside the wall. Sealed against draughts, open to vapour.

Our Pro Clima external WRB system is the control layer that is compliant to the code requirements. For any further information, reach out via membranes.build.

Episode 3: Sealing the Window Frame

A continuous moisture barrier around a window frame comes down to two things: tape width and corner technique.

Two widths are used here, 200mm to the outside and 150mm to the inside, with a split release paper that makes clean installation easier on site. Coverage starts with a 50mm overlap, extending 150mm upward, then a press tool works the membrane firmly into the corners before the tape is stuck to the front of the frame and
stretched around.

Corners are where this detail is won or lost. Stretching the tape into the corner is the easiest way to create a future leak, so instead it's carefully worked around the corner rather than pulled tight across it.

Condensation behind a finished material like copper is inevitable, not a defect. What matters is whether the assembly gives that moisture somewhere to go.

Correct tape width, overlap and corner technique are what keep that drainage path open.

How do you get a GAF shingle roof system to BAL-40 without losing ventilation?

We took our standard Wall-Top Cavity Closer to Bowen's Rethink Building Hub in Hastings and added it into GAF's code-marked shingle display to find out.

The closer sits at the wall-to-fascia junction, closing the gap between the fascia and the first course of shingles. GAF's drip edge flashing and membrane layer over the top, while the closer keeps the cavity ventilated underneath the ply, all the way through to the ridge.

The result: a bushfire-compliant detail that doesn't compromise on airflow.

It's a good example of what the profile is built for, standard sizing, adaptable detailing, across different building envelope systems.

Right product. Right training. Right result.

Bowens offers training to ensure correct technique for installing pro clima wall membranes and flashing tape - the small details that determine whether a build is truly airtight.

Backing our trade partners with real product knowledge and hands-on training is how we help you build it right, every time.

Episode 2: Bridging the Copper Junction

Where copper cladding sits flush against the wall, screwing through that area to fix the cladding creates a pe*******on risk right at a critical junction.

The solution is Tescon Extoseal tape. Because the tape is stretchy, it seals cleanly around screws and nails as they pass through it, closing the pe*******on rather than working around it.

The gap width calls for two strips: 150mm and 200mm. The 150mm strip sits 150mm up the join, so the corner is fully covered.

Normally, lapping sequence (over and under) is what keeps water moving in the right direction. Here, the substrate behind the join is solid rather than loose, so the detail stays stable without relying on that standard lap sequence.

Episode 1: Window Reveal Detailing

A 300mm window reveal doesn't follow a standard detail. So the sealing strategy doesn't either.

Working alongside Visionaire, this window sits in a reveal well beyond conventional depth. Beneath it, a specialist tray acts as a deflection layer, directing water to the outside of the structure and creating a dedicated drainage layer under the frame.

Because the reveal depth exceeds standard tape widths, the detail is built from two 150mm runs rather than one continuous width. The wall system ties into the drainage layer using Solitex Extasana and Tescon Extora tape, protecting both the reveal and the seal. Copper cladding wrapping the corners is factored into the sequencing to keep protection continuous around the junction.

At the back of the window: sealed and taped on all four sides. At the front: three sides. The adhesive is water resistant, with no delamination and no re-emulsifying over time. Built to hold under real site conditions, not just on a spec sheet.
