Why does exercise matter for people living with disability?
Exercise is about more than fitness. Improving strength, balance, mobility and cardiovascular capacity can make everyday activities easier and support greater independence and community participation.
The evidence shows that exercise can help maintain physical function, reduce falls risk, improve tolerance to activity and support confidence with movement.
Importantly, exercise should be individualised — adapted to a person's abilities, goals, environment and support needs.
I'll be at the Canberra Community Disability Expo chatting about how exercise can be adapted to different abilities and incorporated into everyday life.
Come and say hi if you're attending!
