Friending Staff on Facebook

Please note that the Department of Education has this advice for teachers 'Friending' parents on Facebook:
The line between your professional and personal life could become blurred making it difficult to manage your professional relationship with the parents when that becomes necessary. You also need to bear in mind that becoming a Facebook friend with a parent could result in their children getting access to your account as well. You also need to be mindful that you need to be careful what you say on Facebook if you have parents as friends as comments made online can be misunderstood and could result in parental complaints made to your principal. In short, please do not ask to friend a member of staff on Facebook as refusal often offends.

Explicit Teaching of Mathematics at Copacabana Public School

At Copacabana PS, we use explicit teaching to help every student become a confident mathematician.
Our highly skilled teachers clearly explain and model new concepts, while students use concrete materials to make mathematical ideas visible and meaningful.
We also teach to the point of need of our students, using ongoing checks for understanding to identify what each student needs next, whether that’s support, practice or greater challenge.
We are building strong mathematical understanding, one step at a time.

How do we fit so much into a few weeks in 5/6P? Somehow, we always manage!

We’ve been putting our skills to the test with Numeracy Ninjas, building confidence, speed and accuracy with our number skills. In sport, we’ve taken to the field for softball, working on throwing, catching, batting and plenty of teamwork. 🥎

Our creative side has also been on show with some fantastic skateboard art, while Science Day gave us the chance to investigate, experiment and get curious about the world around us. 🔬

In English, we’ve continued exploring August and Jones. The themes of friendship, resilience, kindness and standing up for others have led to some thoughtful class discussions and linked perfectly with Bullying No Way Week.

One of the highlights was our PJ Day, an idea from our Student Voice Council. Coming to school in our comfiest clothes was a fun way to reinforce an important message – sometimes we need to be comfortable being uncomfortable, speak up and stand beside others when something isn’t right.

We’ve also been learning about Cyber Safety, with students discussing how to make smart choices online, protect themselves and others, and think carefully about their digital footprint.

Just a little snapshot of life in 5/6P lately – lots of learning, creativity, teamwork and fun along the way!

🌱✨ Ready to dig into a day full of discovery? ✨️🌱

🧬 National Science Week: Seeds of Science enrichment day was an absolute blast!

From crafting cress heads to building mini glasshouses for beans, exploring terrariums, biomes and ecosystems, growing an avocado plant from seed, unravelling the mysteries of seed dispersal, getting up close with sunflower lifecycles, and even diving into the science of cloud seeding. We did it all! 🌻☁️

This incredible journey sparked curiosity, creativity, and a love for science in every grade, today. Here’s to inspiring excellence and growing young minds, one seed at a time! 🌿🔬
