The Birth Without Trauma Campaign Launch!!
Homebirth NSW invited our Homebirthing community to join them in their Rally in Hyde Park, Sydney yesterday,
Here, the installation of birth pools represented the many “Homebirths That Could Have Happened”, and it demonstrated the reasons that mothers were UNABLE to access Homebirth.
One of the birth pools contained the reasons why mothers choose homebirth & the barriers to achieving this too.
The President of Homebirth New South Wales, Katelyn highlighted the birth trauma that exists for many in our communities within NSW, as well as nationally & internationally…, and there were discussions during our time of togetherness about the proposed changes to the 2nd Midwife attending Homebirths, with regards to their Endorsement & Insurance Requirements from 2027 too.
This launch formed part of the greater Birth Without Trauma campaign & there are several maternity consumer groups working on the campaign ahead of the state election next year. Their aim (and ours) is to hold MPs and their parties accountable to the Birth Trauma Inquiry’s 43 Parliamentary Recommendations and their lack of progress in implementing these so far.
Women are continuing to be traumatised by their births!! …, even after them (and us) hearing exactly what needs to change 😔. There has been such a delay in addressing these 43 recommendations….., and for those Mums & Bubs…, this is just NOT good enough.
We give thanks to the wonderful team at Homebirth New South Wales, to each of the Consumer Groups, to our Homebirth Midwives & other Birth Workers, and especially to the Phenomenal Birthing Mummas, their Little Bubs and their Families too.
We also thank Dr Joe McGirr, the Father of one of our Nesting Hub Mumma’s Lara, who dropped by yesterday too. Joe is the independent Member for Wagga Wagga, in the NSW Parliament
Together, we WILL get there 💪🏻🤩👏🏻🫶🏻💜.
