Looking back on some of our favourite moments captured from NCRRRE.

We’re still reminiscing about what an incredible three days we had at NCRRRE 2026 in Ballarat / Wadawurrung Country!

It was fantastic to bring together educators, researchers, practitioners, community members and leaders from across Australia to share ideas, research, experiences and practical approaches to strengthening education in regional, rural and remote communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who presented, attended, contributed, volunteered and helped make the conference such a success. 🙌

After three days of ideas, inspiration, learning and connection, NCRRRE 2026 has officially come to a close.

From the opening keynote with Robert Mitchell and his challenge to rethink the way we approach education, through to Conor Ashleigh’s powerful reminder that everybody has a story worth hearing, the conference brought together voices from across Australia and beyond to share research, practice, experiences and ideas for the future of regional, rural and remote education.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, presented, chaired sessions, shared their research, asked questions and contributed to the conversations that made NCRRRE 2026 so special.

We’d also like to thank our conference committee, volunteers, sponsors, venue team and everyone behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to bring the conference together. Your support made it all possible.

And finally, thank you to the wonderful regional, rural and remote education community for continuing to share, challenge, collaborate and champion better opportunities for learners and communities.

What a fantastic second day at NCRRRE 2026!

Thursday brought another inspiring program of presentations, research and conversations exploring engagement and aspiration, pathways, connections and research across regional, rural and remote education.

We were also privileged to hear from our closing keynote, Conor Ashleigh, who shared his powerful message, “Everybody has a story worth hearing.” Conor challenged us to recognise storytelling as a practical tool for educators to amplify voices, strengthen connections and celebrate the communities we work with.

From innovative pathways and growing our rural workforce to community partnerships and research that can drive change, Day Two was a wonderful reflection of the ideas, experiences and people shaping the future of regional, rural and remote education.

A huge thank you to all of our presenters, speakers and delegates for making the second day so memorable.

Day One of NCRRRE 2026 brought together educators, researchers, practitioners and leaders from across Australia and beyond for a day filled with thought-provoking presentations, inspiring conversations and meaningful connections.

We kicked off the conference with our opening keynote from Robert Mitchell, “Bypassing the QWERTY of Education”, which challenged us to think differently about education and the opportunities to create meaningful change.

From exploring innovative approaches to regional, rural and remote education to sharing research, experiences and practical ideas, there was plenty to take away from the first day.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a conference without plenty of opportunities to connect, share stories and catch up with colleagues over a GOLD themed dinner!

We’re heading into Day Two of NCRRRE 2026, with another full day of inspiring presentations, conversations and connections exploring the future of regional, rural and remote education.

We’re thrilled to welcome Conor Ashleigh as our keynote speaker, presenting “Everybody Has a Story Worth Hearing.”

His keynote will explore how storytelling can be a practical and accessible tool for educators — helping to amplify voices, build connection, create impact and celebrate the stories within our communities.

Conor will challenge us to see storytelling not as a specialised skill, but as something we can all engage with thoughtfully, ethically and confidently — and most importantly, have some fun with!

We’re looking forward to another fantastic day of learning, connection and inspiration in Ballarat.
