Tanya Crossman - Misunderstood Your safe space for intercultural training, cross-cultural family support, TCK expertise, and CCK ad

I offer a wide range of workshops for cross-cultural communities of all types: parents, educators, TCKs, and support workers. I can also create commissioned lectures, workshops, and other presentations tailored specifically for your group. In addition, I consult with schools and other organisations to assist in creating programs and curriculum their communities need. I currently deliver the majori

ty of my content through live interactive virtual workshops. The vibrant interactivity I offer balances privacy and participation. In the past I spent a lot of my time travelling internationally to speak at events, or work with multiple classroom groups within a school. When and where travel restrictions permit, I will resume offering these services. A lot of my materials are available with bilingual slide decks (English/Mandarin Chinese). I am also happy to run my interactive activities, including Q&A, in Mandarin (whether virtual or in person). I am comfortable working in/with live translation (I prefer consecutive translation, but have also worked with concurrent translation). My typical clients are international schools, university groups, parent organisations, diplomatic corps associations, and mission foundations. That said, I am always excited to try something new, so even if you feel you don’t fit my typical profile, don’t let that stop you! I’d love to have a chat with you, and if we aren’t a good fit I’ll do my best to connect you with someone who is.

Jewellery makes perfect souvenirs!

Instead of sitting on a shelf, my memories get to be part of my daily life through my outfits. Every time someone comments on my wearable souvenirs, I'm reminded of places and people.

What do you collect from your travels?

No two days are alike for me - but here's one day.

As usual I worked, rested, and worked again in the evening. It was a long day, partly because I spent 2.5 hours dealing with my parents' bank and internet in the morning

I also had three great meetings and worked on a bunch of exciting projects.

I love what I do :)

What messes have you dealt with while travelling or living abroad?

This article received negative press, and rightly so.

I absolutely LOVE seeing more younger women using mobility aids. My life would have been better in many ways if I had been offered a mobility aid at a younger age. Or if the word "disabled" had been applied to my situation.

You do what it takes to see your TCK mates!

So thankful to have opportunities to see friends like Anna again and again ❤️

What is the best (or most recent!) TCK reunion you've enjoyed?

Small planes sometimes come with good views!

I'm currently based in Canberra, Australia - the country's capital city, but a small airport. I regularly fly on Dash-8 propeller planes.

These flights mean walking out onto the tarmac (and again on the other end) - and that coincided with a lovely sunset.

I love airports! They're liminal spaces, where everyone is in between.

I absolutely LOVE travelling! And yet. The day before a flight, my body gets the jitters.

I used to see this as a productivity hack.
Now I recognise it for the anxiety it is.

I've learned to practice self-compassion
To breathe
To slow down
To get grounded

And let myself get things done without going at break-neck speed, trying to outrun the anxiety.

People make assumptions about me when I speak on intercultural issues.

When you know my story, it makes sense!

I've spent my entire career in the minority.
- never the majority nationality
- never the majority culture
- never the majority accent
- sometimes in my second language

And that's on top of my childhood mobility!

How have you been misjudged by your outside appearance?

Welcome! I talk about Third Culture Kids, cross cultural experiences, building understanding, and research into cross cultural Identity.

Follow along for more ❤️
