Lakeland State School’s first Open Hour was a wonderful success!

It was fantastic to welcome families into our classroom and see students confidently sharing their learning.

Students took the lead, guiding their families through their work and explaining what they have been learning this term.

Our classroom was filled with learning from:
English & Science– informative texts about animals, their needs and how they survive.
HASS – “Me and My Community”

Students proudly showcased their projects, demonstrating their growing understanding and ability to communicate their ideas clearly.

A big thank you to all families who came along to support the students, and to our students for the effort, pride, and confidence they showed.

We are very proud of our Lakeland learners.

Our Year 1, 2 and 3 students came together for a collaborative HASS lesson, working on a Lakeland Map!
Students have been exploring features of our local area and worked together across year levels to share ideas and building understanding.

It was fantastic to see the teamwork and enthusiasm as they started bringing this project to life.

We're looking forward to watching their learning grow over the coming lessons!

In Technology yesterday, students took part in an exciting design challenge focused on teamwork and communication. Working in three groups, students were tasked with building the tallest free-standing tower using only 7 pieces of A4 paper and tape.
The main focus of the challenge was not just height, but collaboration. Each team needed to listen to everyone’s ideas, ensure that each person’s contribution was reflected in the final design, and be able to clearly explain the reasoning behind every part of their tower.
Students demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills, creativity, and resilience as they tested structures, made adjustments, and worked together to improve their designs. The activity highlighted the importance of communication, shared decision-making, and cooperative learning in achieving a common goal.

We’re excited to welcome all students back to school for the start of the 2026 school year on Tuesday, 27th January! The staff at Lakeland State School are looking forward to seeing everyone and getting the new year off to a great start.
As part of our commitment to student health and safety, please remember the following important expectations:
• Covered shoes must be worn every day — this is a requirement under Workplace Health and Safety to protect students during all school activities. Fully enclosed shoes should be worn (no Crocs, thongs, sandals or open footwear).
• Be SunSmart — Queensland schools implement sun safety strategies year-round. Students are required to wear appropriate protective clothing and hats when outdoors, including a wide-brim hat that shades the face, neck and ears.
