🍎 Big Changes at the ISS Tuckshop! If you've noticed a few changes at the tuckshop this term, you're not imagining things!

Over the past six months, the ISS P&C, our Tuckshop Convenor and staff have been working with the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops (QAST) to review how our tuckshop operates and identify ways to make it healthier, more sustainable and financially stronger for the long term.

The review found that while our tuckshop was offering many great homemade meals, it was operating at a significant loss and wasn't fully aligned with Queensland's Smart Choices healthy food guidelines.

The good news? There were plenty of opportunities to improve without sacrificing the food our students love. 😊

Since then, we've been busy making changes behind the scenes and on the menu.
🥗 Healthier choices have been introduced, with several "red" menu items removed or replaced by healthier alternatives.
🍕 The menu has been simplified, reducing duplicate items and focusing on foods that are both popular and efficient to prepare.
❄️ More meals are being prepared in bulk and frozen, helping reduce food waste while ensuring fresh, nutritious options are always available.
💰 Pricing and meal deals have been reviewed to provide better value for families while helping the tuckshop operate more sustainably.
🌯 New menu highlights include sushi, butter chicken and rice, pasta bolognaise, mini pizzas, baked potatoes, wraps, scrolls, quesadillas, fruit muesli balls, yoghurt, banana bread and fresh fruit snacks. Many of these items are prepared right here at school!

We're already seeing positive results. While the tuckshop's half-year financial review showed a loss, it was almost $20,000 better than budget and around 50% better than the same time last year. Better control of food costs has been a major contributor to this improvement. 🎉

But we're not stopping there!

Coming soon you'll see 🎁 meal deals, 🌟 daily specials, 🥪 seasonal menu updates, and more promotion of healthy options through Flexischools and school communications. We're also exploring special event and themed food days throughout the year.

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️ We Need More Tuckshop Heroes!
One of the biggest factors in the tuckshop's future success is volunteers. Every volunteer shift helps reduce costs, supports our small team and allows more resources to be directed into great food for our students. 🍎❤️

You don't need experience. Whether you can spare an hour, a morning, or just one shift a term, we'd love your help. There are lots of jobs available, from preparing food and packing orders to restocking and serving. GLUTEN FREE ORDERS.🚨
Please only order Gluten Free items if your child needs them. The Tuckshop ladies have been getting LOTS of orders for gluten free garlic bread for children who don’t indicate they need a special diet in the app. If your children are ordering their OWN lunch, please check they know how to select their food items properly. Each order is checked against our allergy list and it slows down food prep for unnecessary orders.
