Today the butterflies joined a kindergarten class at Hurstville Public School for the morning!

After a group story time, the butterflies enjoyed engaging in a variety of activities with the kindergarten students, interacting with them and reaching out to build friendships.

Visiting a primary school with familiar faces can help children get an understanding of what awaits them at big school, and supports them as they adapt to a new environment.

We will continue with more school readiness activities in the coming weeks to support the butterflies in their transition!

We had a lovely afternoon celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights! Sunita and Kylie from Diversity Kids led the celebration, sharing art, music, dance and stories that helped us learn about the traditions and meaning of this special festival. The children were engaged and curious, and their appreciation for different cultures continues to grow. Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make it such an enjoyable afternoon!

Today the children took part in a fun and interactive transport safety workshop, from Transport Sydney, where they learned important messages about staying safe around trains and stations. We talked about why it’s important to stay behind the yellow line, hold an adult’s hand that you trust, mind the gap, and use the Emergency Help Point if there’s ever an emergency!

Today our children had a special visit from the Living Safely with Dogs Program, which is a NSW Government initiative that teaches children about dog safety and responsible pet ownership.

The children were very excited to meet the trained pet educators and their friendly dog, Sansa. Through songs, stories, role play and fun activities, the children learned how to approach dogs safely, when to leave them alone, and how to recognise if a dog is happy, scared or angry. Each child had the opportunity to interact with the dog in a safe and supervised way, which was a wonderful first experience for many children. We enjoyed exploring safety together and building confidence around interacting with dogs!

Book Week 2025 celebrated the theme ā€˜Book an Adventure’, and is a chance to explore new worlds through the magic of reading. Books open the door to a child’s imagination, helping children discover new places, meet interesting characters, and explore exciting ideas.

Stories in the early years are not only enjoyable, but also essential for developing language, encouraging creativity, and discovering the world around them. Every story is a little adventure waiting to be shared.

During Book Week at KOTA, we celebrated with stories, dress ups, and activities which encouraged a love of reading. We look forward to many more story filled adventures as our love for reading continues to grow!

This morning we had a visit from our First Aid Officer Miss Moon! The children really enjoyed a valuable and information learning experience about what to do in an emergency where someone stops breathing.

Miss Moon went through the DRSABCD action play which reminds us what actions to do in an emergency. We also learnt the proper way of performing chest compressions on an adult and child, and the children enjoyed being hands-on and practicing what they learnt on a mannequin.

Learning about first aid gives children the confidence to know what to do in an emergency and helps them feel prepared to take safe, helpful actions. These skills encourage responsibility, problem-solving, and caring for others. Even at a young age, children can begin to understand the importance of staying calm, calling for help, and taking steps that might save a life.

This Science Week, our children explored their curiosity in action through a range of hands-on learning experiences.

Our adventures began at the Australian Museum, where the interactive exhibits captured the children’s interest and sparked their curiosity.

At KOTA, the children became little scientists themselves building and erupting volcanoes, making raisins dance, creating swirling lava lamps, and even exploring coding in a hands-on robotics workshop. Each activity sparked curiosity and gave the children a chance to experiment, test ideas, and collaborate.

Science learning in early childhood is all about exploring, wondering, and trying again when things don’t go as planned. It builds problem-solving skills, confidence, and the ability to think creatively about challenges. Most importantly, it shows children that science is all around them every day.

Science Week reminds us that every child is full of natural curiosity, they just need the space, tools, and encouragement to explore!
