Are you interested in helping migrants learn English? Do you have some spare time on weekdays?
TasTAFE is seeking people who would like to become volunteer language tutors for eligible migrants in Hobart, with the next six-week tutor training beginning on 30 May, 2022.
After completing their training, volunteer tutors assist migrant ‘students’ on a one-on-one basis for around an hour each week. Tutors assist migrant students to learn speaking, reading and writing English, as well as establish important connections with the local community.
The tutor training is a combination of online study and face to face sessions.

Volunteer English Tutor Training Course starting on 26 April 2021!

Would you like to help people new to Australia learn English and connect with their community?
TasTAFE is offering a free training course for people interested in becoming volunteer language tutors.
Under the Volunteer Tutor Scheme, volunteer tutors visit migrant 'students' in their own homes, or in public locations such as libraries or community halls, assisting them to learn English.
TasTAFE English Language Services teacher, Ian Hewitt, and Volunteer Tutor Scheme Administrator, Hiroko Kunimoto (pictured) say tutors play an important role in helping migrants settle into life in a new country. It’s a rewarding experience for all involved with friendships often forming and tutors having the chance to learn about another culture.
Training for would-be tutors begins on 26 April. Head to our website to find out more http://bit.ly/2P1WcSi

Good news! Our home tutors can now resume socially-distanced tutoring. This means that some of our most isolated community members will now be getting language support in their own homes once more, from our wonderful volunteers.
If you’re an active home tutor who didn’t get my email about this, or you’re a trained tutor who’d like a new student, please contact me at TasTAFE.home.tutor.ELS.
Also feel free to contact me if you’re interested in becoming a home tutor, or have any questions. 😊
