Basketmakers of Tasmania our aim is to perpetuate the art and craft of basketry by stimulating an interest in and appreciation of basketry and sharing our enthusiasm for this craft

We are a statewide group of creative souls who love to create baskets and fibre related wonders using natural and man made materials. To find out more, please join us at one of our meetings:
South - Bellerive Community Arts Centre on the second Saturday and Sunday of each month (except January) 10am -3pm
South - Moonah Arts Centre every Monday 10am - 1pm
Northwest - Forth Primary School on the first Sunday of each month (except January) 10am - 4pm

What great results from this weekend’s workshop! Quickest group of melon basketers we’ve had so far. Almost everyone finished a basket and the one who didn’t actually went home with two half baskets to finish at home and one participant finished two baskets! Amazing! We tutors even got to finish the UFOs we’d brought as samples!!

Join us next Friday for a relaxed, hands-on gathering to create, talk and share stories. Led by Aunty Cheryl Mundy trimanya and Aunty Coleen minungkana Mundy, you're invited to play with materials, share and see where your hands take you. Found materials, including natural fibres and discarded fishing nets, will be provided for you to weave into your own creations.

You're welcome to register for one or both sessions. There are no instructions to follow, so you won't miss out if you only attend one – and if you attend both, you'll simply have more time to create.

Anna recently took a 3.5hr introduction to basketry workshop at Kentish House in Sheffield. There were 10 very enthusiastic participants who stitched various fibres and ropes into a little basket to take home. Those who didn't quite finish took enough fibres/sinew home to finish up! Thank you to Ruby @ Kentish House - Glenhaven Family Care for organising the workshop and providing us with lunch!
