🌟 Class Spotlight – Early Years 7 🌟

This week we are shining a spotlight on the fantastic learning taking place in Early Years 7!

Students have enjoyed a busy and engaging start to Term 2. In English, they are exploring different types of games, building vocabulary, sharing their ideas and preferences, and learning to retell events from their experiences. In Science, students have been investigating life cycles through hands-on experiences including growing seeds and observing silkworms and chrysalises. They have also been developing their digital skills by creating algorithms and programming Bee-Bots to navigate challenges using directional language and communication supports.

It has been wonderful to see students learning through play, investigation, communication and collaboration while developing important skills across a range of curriculum areas.

Well done to our amazing EY7 students and staff on a fantastic start to the term! 💙🧡

📢 TRUE All Schools Program Coming to HBSS 📢

From 8–11 June, students at Hervey Bay Special School will participate in the TRUE All Schools Program.

TRUE are specialists in delivering relationships, sexuality and personal safety education to children and young people with disability. Their educators work closely with schools to ensure learning is accessible, relevant and appropriate for students' communication, learning and developmental needs.

Each year group will participate in a program specifically tailored to their age and stage of learning. Topics may include personal safety, public and private behaviours, feelings, puberty, healthy relationships and sexual health education for older students.

At HBSS, we know that explicit teaching around personal safety, body awareness, consent, relationships and self-advocacy is an important part of supporting students to live safe, healthy and independent lives.

This week's edition includes important school updates, upcoming events, learning highlights, PBL focus areas and information for families. We encourage parents and carers to take a few minutes to read through the newsletter and discuss it with their child.

📚⚓ Welcome to Week 7 at Hervey Bay Special School!
This week our students are continuing their literacy journey with the letter sound W and the irregular word "are", while also focusing on our PBL expectation of being respectful by keeping toilet doors closed.
There are plenty of opportunities for families to connect this week, including our upcoming P&C Meeting (subject to confirmation) and Coffee@Hervey's on Friday morning (bookings essential).
As we head further into winter, a gentle reminder to help keep our school community healthy by keeping children at home if they are unwell. We also encourage families to send a warm jumper or school jacket as the cooler mornings continue.
