The 2023 World Championships has been run and was a great day for all involved. We had a small group of local lifters who performed extremely well, breaking multiple world records. This year’s Worlds was run differently to previous Worlds. Due to the low number of competitors who were available to lift the decision was made to reduce the event to a single day meet with 5 lifts being contested.
There were many outstanding performances to mention. This was Charlie Carabott’s 2nd time on the platform and he performed very well, breaking the 2” vertical lift record in his division twice. Edmund Patterson (son of John Patterson) was the only Open lifter on the day and wow he is strong. He finished in 2nd place overall which is a very tough thing to achieve for an Opens division lifter at the worlds. Tom Davies has still got it. He finished the day with 3 world records. Big Sam Trew is still as strong as ever. Sam finished with the 2nd heaviest total of the day. Peter Phillips just keeps on amazing everyone with his ability to grind through a deadlift no matter how much pain he is in. The stand out performance of the meet came from David Reeve. David broke the work record in every single lift and took out the overall champion title by a substantial margin.
With all said and done this was another fantastic world championship. Everyone involved ensured the day ran smoothly and all the lifters put in a top quality performance.

World Old Time Strongman Postal Championships - Sunday 10th December
Overall promoter / organiser: Clint Poore USAWA
This event, although Postal will take place at one venue in USA, Uk and Australia.
This will be run by Peter Robert Phillips at The Shed, Toodyay, Western Australia.
The lifts are:
HACKENSCHMIDT Floor Press, Shanks Lift (Dinnies Style) and the Dumbell to Shoulder lift. These are not IAWA lifts (no world records available) but Australian Records are available
There is no entry fee but lifters will receive a medal and T Shirt.

We are very sad to hear of the passing of Eric ‘Hercules’ Perryman. He was an absolute character and legend of strength, particularly Powerlifting, in Western Australia. He was the star of the IAWA Worlds in Perth in 2011 with his ability to motivate and fill the room with so much positivity. I will never forget how, with a few simple words, he reignited my spark and gave our crew a much needed injection of energy to keep all-round weightlifting alive in Australia. Your happiness, humour and yarns of our history will be sorely missed Hercules…… Rest In Peace legend.

AWFA is the governing body for all-round weightlifting in Australia. Our aim is to preserve old time weightlifting and strongman and we hold regular competitions contesting old times lifts.

This year we are excited to link up again with HGWA to showcase some of our lifts. We will be at the Swan Valley Games(November 5th) where we will do some of our old time strongman lifts, including a favourite for many, the Dinnie Lift - honouring Scotland's famous Dinnie Stones.

We hope to see everyone there as this event is an amazing day to be a part of
