Don’t waste your Sundays starting your dinner plans from scratch.

We are creatures of habit even if we tell ourselves that we like variety.
And every time you step into the supermarket with no plan, you are wasting time and money.
And it never goes away. If you are in the middle of life with kids to feed and places to constantly be, you can’t leave dinners unplanned and just wing it! It’s not sustainable.

Create a plan, like I have and repeat it indefinitely.

Decide what you are eating for the next fortnight or however many weeks feel right for you.
Set up a way to shop online and use the list function.
Allocate a day when you complete the shop on repeat.
Schedule a time to pick it up
And if you are lucky, hand over the unpacking to one of the kids (this is a bonus win 😆)

If you want this life too without any hassles to set it up, comment DINNER and I’ll send it over x

Can household inequality end a marriage?

Divorce rates are high at my stage of marriage. I’m 49, and I’ve been with my husband for 21 years.

I’m opening this conversation to encourage discussion, not to debate anyone’s lived experience.

Because household inequality has less to do with the actual work than you might think. It’s often about how valued (or undervalued) someone feels while doing it.

That’s why we need to talk about it.

Being willing to have difficult conversations about what it takes to run a home is essential. It creates the opportunity for change and leaves less room for resentment to build.

Because it’s often the resentment, not the washing, cleaning or organising that puts the final nail in the coffin when a marriage breaks down.

When both people understand what it takes to run their home, including the physical and emotional cost, they can start finding solutions together.

That might mean setting up the home so it doesn’t rely on one person. Or sharing responsibilities differently or bringing in support such as a cleaner, housekeeper or House Manager.

There are so many possible solutions.

But the first step is always the conversation.

What’s your take? Does this reflect what’s happening in your life right now?

It’s never too late to make a change. Tell me in the comments 👇🏻

No-one taught me this.

Being the CEO of your home does not mean you do everything, it means you lead the home to run without relying on one person.

Four things to do today to have your home running without you.
1. Create Systems. If something is done on repeat, create a system to make it visible.
2. Define what "done" looks like in your home. This is setting the standard so everyone is clear on what the standard actually is.
3. Delegate responsibility. This is about giving the full task to the person so they can do it from start to finish without just helping you out.
4. Review all of the above on a regular basis and if you feel there is something that keep coming back to you, ask: "what system is missing here?".

If you want more time and focus to work on what is important to you and your life... the foundation of everything starts with the home.

Comment HOME to start your process.

Your business needs something from you that’s very hard to give when you’re also the person keeping your entire home running.

Your attention.

Not whatever is left after you’ve thought about dinner, the washing, appointments, school schedules, groceries, maintenance, what needs replacing and the hundred other details that keep a household moving.

Your actual attention.

Because you can have the business plan, the ambition and the ability — but if your home still relies on you to notice, remember, organise and do everything, it will always be competing for your capacity.

And the answer isn't necessarily becoming better at fitting it all in.

It might be sharing responsibility differently. Putting better rhythms in place. Teaching other people how your home runs. Outsourcing the things that don't need you. Getting support.

Or simply deciding that running your home doesn't have to depend entirely on you.

We talk a lot about what you need to do to grow a business.

More strategy. More consistency. More focus.

Maybe one of the most powerful things you can do is create a home that gives some of that capacity back to you.

So yes… we said five reasons.

But we think that one is enough. 😉

Here’s the thing I’ve learned from running businesses while also running a home:

Your business doesn’t get the best of you when your brain is busy figuring out what’s for dinner, remembering that someone needs new school shoes, wondering whether there’s anything in the fridge and mentally keeping track of the 47 other things that make a household function.

And no, creating a plan for dinner or a rhythm for the washing isn’t magically going to double your revenue.

But every decision you make once and stop making over and over again gives you a little bit of your brain back.

Every responsibility that no longer automatically belongs to you gives you some capacity back.

Every part of your home that can function without you having to think about it gives you more space to focus on the things that actually need your thinking.

And when you’re building a business, that matters.

I think we spend a lot of time asking women how they can be more productive, more disciplined and better at managing their time.

Maybe we should spend a little more time looking at what’s already competing for it.

So no, I’m not saying sorting out how your home runs will help you build your business faster…

but I’m definitely not NOT saying it. 😉

There was a time when I genuinely loved being the one who could do everything at home.

I could keep the house beautiful, feed everyone, remember what needed doing, organise the kids, sort the washing, keep everyone on track and still get everything else done.

And there’s actually something really satisfying about being good at that.

Until you start wanting to build something bigger outside of it.

Because the problem was never that I didn’t love my home or my family. I do. The problem was that I had become so good at taking responsibility for all of it that there wasn’t always enough of me left for my own ambition.

And that’s something I’m thinking about a lot as I head towards 50.

I don’t want women to have to choose between a beautiful, well-run home and having the time, energy and capacity to build something for themselves.

I think we can have both.

But probably not if we insist on doing all of it ourselves.

Being needed by everyone feels good… until you realise it’s the reason you have no time for yourself.

It’s all fun and games being the one who can do everything at home. And for a long time, it can actually feel really good. You’re capable, you know how everything works, you know what everyone needs and, honestly, sometimes it’s just easier to do it yourself.

But there comes a point where being indispensable stops feeling like a superpower and starts becoming the thing that’s holding you back.

Because if your home only runs smoothly when you’re the one running it, you can never really step away from it. There’s always something that needs your attention, another decision to make, someone asking you a question or something you need to remember.

And that starts to cost you.

It costs you the time you wanted to spend growing your business. It costs you the freedom to take an afternoon off without thinking about what’s happening at home. It costs you weekends, headspace and, eventually, some of the life you thought you’d be living by now.

I don’t think the answer is getting better at doing it all.

I think we need to change the way our homes are run.

Because your home should be able to function without you being involved in every little thing. It should support your ambitions, your family and the life you’re trying to create, not constantly compete with them.

And that’s exactly what I’m on a mission to change.

If you’re ready to stop being the person your home can’t function without, comment HOME and I’ll send you the details about The Smooth Running Home. ❤️

It’s the best place to start to make yourself replaceable 😘

A well-run home isn’t when one person gets really good at doing everything (aka, mums)

It’s one where everyone knows how the home works.

What needs doing, where things belong and what they’re responsible for.

The goal isn’t to become more organised so you can carry more.

It’s to create a home that doesn’t need you at the centre of every decision. That’s exhausting.

If you’re ready for your home to start working like that, comment HOME and I’ll send you something to help you get started.

Your business is not a hobby.

You want to make some serious money, yet every time someone needs something, you drop everything and are at their beck and call! I mean, what’s going on with that?

It’s hard to get anywhere when you are stopping and starting, being pulled away for mundane tasks anyone can do.

And I get it, creating some sort of system seems almost impossible from where you are sitting. You might think, well, who else is going to do all of the things at home and with my family? Because the work still needs to be done.

But do you have to do everything?

Your family can work around you sometimes 🫢

Dinner can be later because you have a meeting or someone else can do the school run because you need to work, or they catch the bus home! Heaven forbid!

Things at home can be done differently because YOU have something important to do.

Your business deserves more than whatever time is left once everyone else has been sorted.

And if you want to grow it, make some serious money and see what you’re actually capable of, there are going to be times when your family needs to work around that.

And that is OK. You work around them all the time.

Being part of a family means we ALL work around each other.

So stop treating your business (and your priorities) like it’s the thing that should always be flexible.

Sometimes, everyone else can be flexible too. 😉

Comment HOME is you are ready to put your business first and put those systems in place at home.

I’m choosing growing my business over a perfectly made bed!

I say this with SO much love 😂 But sometimes we need to stop being so controlling.

I see so many women frustrated because their partner or kids don’t do things the way they would…
The bed isn’t made properly, the towels are folded differently, things get put away in a slightly weird spot.
So what 🤷‍♀️

Because if you gave me the choice between growing my business and having the bed made perfectly to my standards every day…

I’m choosing the business. Every single time.

We live with other humans. They’re allowed to have their own quirky little ways of doing things too. And giving people some autonomy doesn’t mean you suddenly have to lower all your standards, there will always be things that genuinely matter, but believe me, most of it DOESN’T!

So hear me when I say: there are plenty of things where good enough is actually good enough.

And when you stop needing everything to be done exactly your way, something else happens…

People get the chance to figure things out for themselves. And you can always suggest a better way later, but first, give them the chance to own it.

Save your energy for the things that actually matter to you.

The perfectly made bed can wait. 😉
