We went the extra mile last week hosting the Innovation in Practice: Young Arab Start-Up Pitch Competition at Swinburne University of Technology. Our 12 speakers and mentors well equipped our entrepreneurial toolbox and we can’t wait to see what ventures come out of this event!

Day 1 of Young Arab Start-Up Pitch Competition was a huge success. Engaged participants and passionate presenters created a vibrant environment. Twelve presentations were delivered by academics and industry experts. Students learned about the most useful tips to establish and run a business. Thanks to The Council for Australian-Arab Relations - CAAR. Without their generous support, this event would not be possible.

Meet our experts 11: 👨‍💼

Dr Alex Wan will talk about Regulatory requirement

Alex has been a lecturer with Swinburne University for over 16 years, attached initially in the Sarawak Campus of Swinburne University and then with the Department of Accounting, Economics, Finance and Law, and now with the Swinburne Law School. His specialty is in the area of commercial and corporations law.

Meet our experts 10: 👨‍💼

Leith McDonald Doody will talk about International trade.

Leith is one of Australia’s most senior trade diplomats for 20 years, with extensive international experience, especially throughout Asia.

He has extensive experience as a senior management of international organisations, including sitting on a number of Boards, in both the public and private sector. Leith lived and worked in Australia, the U.K., Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Germany and Indonesia.

This has resulted in building a unique understanding of how to develop sustainable relationships and grow long-term successful international businesses.

Skilled in handling complexity and ambiguity, crisis management, restructuring and rebuilding organisations to achieve optimum productivity. Capable of representing interests at the highest levels, with an extensive network of contacts around the world.

Leith is a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Advisor Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC), and former Council Member (Victorian Chapter) Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA).

Tima Elhajj will talk about Learning from success and failure

Tima is a Coach/Mentor, International Speaker and the host of a Podcast. She is also a B2B Content Creator and Video Strategist. She helps entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs & C-Suite executives converge their emotional intelligence with their social presence so that they can become “Thought Leaders” in their niche and ultimately create a lasting impact on people’s lives. With a 15 + year background in Financial Planning (whilst running her own practice), Tima understands the pressures of both the corporate world as well as being an entrepreneur wanting to create a Powerful Personal Brand to stand out from the crowd.

Rhondah Whitaker is one of our mentors.

Rhondah is a highly accomplished innovative professional with 20 year’s experience in the fields of entrepreneurship, learning and development. She has worked with the International Youth Foundation USA in developing learning programs for leaders of social change globally and has coached over 300 young entrepreneurs. Rhondah was the Director and designer of the Young Social Pioneers Program for The Foundation for Young Australians.
