💻 Closing the digital divide, one laptop at a time!

On Thursday 30 July, and College hosted a special laptop presentation, with around five local secondary schools receiving laptops for their students through the This Is ‘IT’ Laptop Program.

The program, led by the South East Local Learning and Employment Network (), helps provide essential technology to students who may otherwise face barriers accessing a laptop at home.

Together with Frankston City Council and industry partners, the program has provided more than 100 repurposed laptops to secondary colleges across the Frankston area — supporting students to access learning, further education, training and employment opportunities.

It was wonderful to see students, principals, the Mayor of Frankston Cr Sue Baker, and program partners come together to celebrate the impact of this initiative.

A great example of what can be achieved when schools, councils, industry and community organisations work together to support young people. 👏💻

🌿 PAL Network Meeting | A great morning connecting with members of the Peninsula Applied Learning (PAL) Network, hosted by David Scott School.

A special highlight was the delicious catering prepared by the talented students at David Scott School — a fantastic example of Applied Learning in action! 👏

We also took a moment to celebrate 25 years of the Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN. 🎉

We were also joined by:
🌱 Craig Taberner from Greenlife Industry Victoria, sharing opportunities for young people to explore careers in horticulture through the Branch Out program
🗳️ The Victorian Electoral Commissiontoral Commission, providing updates and resources to support schools and students ahead of the 2026 Victorian State Election
🎓 Department of Education, sharing updates and opportunities.

Peninsula Pathways Association (PPA) Meeting: Hosted alongside the SWeLLS Schools & Services Expo, our PPA meeting served as a fantastic afternoon of connection and collaboration.

We welcomed guest presenters who shared valuable information on the supports available to young people who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging, from education:

⭐ Bill Weigall from BUSY Schools, who highlighted their alternative education pathways and unveiled their plans to open a school in Frankston.

⭐ Toni Waters from Asuria and Kate Merchan from Thrive Hub, who showcased the range of services and practical supports available to help young people overcome barriers and build positive pathways for the future.

These presentations sparked meaningful discussion and reinforced the importance of strong partnerships between schools, community organisations and support services to ensure every young person has the opportunity to succeed.

The meeting was made even more special as we celebrated 25 years of the Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLENwith cupcakes and great company. 🎉

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed and continues to champion better outcomes for local young people.

25 years. Thousands of futures.

Some impacts are easy to measure.

✅ The number of students who attended an expo.
✅ The kilometres travelled to access training.
✅ The partnerships formed between schools, industry and community.

But the greatest impact is harder to count.

It's the apprentice who found their career because someone introduced them to an employer.

The student who discovered there was another pathway when they thought school wasn't for them.

The teacher who connected a young person with the right support at exactly the right time.

The employer who invested in local talent and changed someone's future.

For 25 years, FMPLLEN has quietly brought people together to create opportunities for young people across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.
Every connection has the potential to change a life.

As we celebrate 25 years, we're proud not just of what we've achieved, but of the thousands of stories that continue because a community chose to work together.

Here's to 25 years of opening doors—and to the many more futures still waiting to unfold.

✨ Friday Flashback | 25 Years of the LLEN ✨

Looking back over the years, one thing is clear—our Careers & Pathways Expo has never stood still.

It has grown and changed alongside our community, evolving to reflect the changing needs of students, schools, employers and industry. Every year has looked a little different, because every generation of young people needs something different.

But one thing has remained the same.

A belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to explore what's possible for their future, and that strong communities are built when education, industry and local organisations come together to support them.

As we celebrate 25 years of the Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN, we're proud of how far we've come—and grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey.

This important initiative, funded by the Victorian Department of Education, ensures more young people can participate in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and gain the skills, experience and confidence they need for life beyond school.

"We need better career guidance and clearer pathways after school."

That was one of the strongest messages of student leaders from Frankston and Mornington Peninsula secondary schools at the recent Committee for Frankston & Mornington Peninsula Student Workshop Forum.
Students spoke openly about:

➡️ Fewer entry-level opportunities
➡️ Uncertainty about the impact of AI on jobs
➡️ Financial pressures shaping career choices
➡️ The challenge of moving from education into meaningful employment

The message is simple: young people want to work—they just need clearer pathways to get there.
