Earlier this month our senior Chemistry students attended Casey Tech, where they spent the day learning about and using some of their expensive equipment such as High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC).

They investigated a type of chemical called a paraben, which are often included in cosmetics and sunscreens. The students investigated the structure, chemical properties and biological effects of this family of chemicals.

The students all enjoyed using fancy lab equipment that we don't have at school like vortex stirrers, centrifuges, and electronic pipettes - they learnt a lot and had a great day.

Outdoor Environmental Studies Ski Trip

Last Friday, our Outdoor and Environmental Studies students headed to Mount Buller for an exciting day on the snow.
Students had the opportunity to develop their skiing and snowboarding skills through lessons with instructors, before putting their skills into practice on the mountain. It was fantastic to see students challenging themselves, supporting one another and enjoying everything the snow has to offer.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented the school throughout the trip.
It was a long day, an early start and certainly a memorable one.

One week to go!

Do you know someone who is affected by mental health?

Sometimes our words aren’t enough to show how much we care, so let’s work together by joining in the Colour Run!

The purpose of this run is to raise the awareness for mental health and raise funds for ‘Headspace Narre Warren’. All students in the school are warmly invited to participate.

The event will be held on the oval, where colour powder will be tossed at other students running through a given track.

The date of the event will be on the 25th of August from lunchtime.
If you have chosen to participate, a payment of $5 will be required as well as wearing a white T-shirt. (Participants are required to bring their own white t-shirts).

On Tuesday the Launch Justice and Innovation classes participated in team building and problem solving activities at the Hyjinx hotel.

Our students put their teamwork to the test and competed against each other in a number of challenge rooms. They showcased their ability to communicate, problem solve, and think creatively which are all skills that will be used in their upcoming market day event.

It was a great day and we all had lots of fun!

On Tuesday this week, CAPA students visited PBS radio station and THE PUSH, a junior mentoring organisation and Youth Services for people interested in the performing arts industry.

Students were treated to seeing the studios at PBS and meeting a Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer, Mary Mihelakos, who spoke with the group.

The main message received from the tour was to share their music and get involved with the local community to volunteer your efforts on local events, gaining real world experience in event management, performer communications & management, as well as joining a network of like-minded people.

Students were then introduced to the head of operations at THE PUSH, a national organisation built to give young people 12-25 years old a place to network, grow their skills in the above mentioned areas of the performing arts; event management, performer communications etc..

The students had a great day out and did such a great job of representing themselves and their school. We are so excited to see what unfolds from their experience in the weeks to come.

Our Year 11 Sociology students had the opportunity to visit the Magistrates’ Court as part of their studies. The excursion provided students with valuable insight into the justice system and how social factors influence crime. This allowed them to connect their classroom learning with real-world experiences.
