Why you should put your child to work…
You may be thinking we are suggesting chores and giving kids extra jobs to help around the house. But, we are getting kids involved in “heavy work” activities for another purpose.
We’re building the child’s proprioceptive input! Many kids who have ADHD-like symptoms or sensory seeking behavior often need play that requires “heavy work” to calm their body and the brain.
Activities or even certain types of “chores” can send messages to the proprioceptive system helping regulate the child’s behaviors and emotions.
Some “heavy work” activities may include the following:
💪Carry a backpack and fill it with books or collect rocks and branches while on a hike
💪Push a wheelbarrow
💪Shovel snow
💪Rearrange furniture
💪Sweep floors
You can use a variety of activities to help the child push, pull, jump or climb. For more “heavy work” ideas, leave a comment below and we’ll send you the link. 👇

Another amazing resource has been added to our indoor play space for imaginative play.
We currently have Australian Animals on the play mat, in conjunction with Australian Animals playing on our projector for further identification and learning.
*The play mat is actually a bath mat and was purchased through Amazon.

After a week of using the coloured lucite blocks on the table whilst exploring the reflections they made with the sun shining on them, this week we added them to the water table for a different perpective of light refraction.
This block set has become one of our favourites.

The children are fully emersing in this season of Autumn through projected images that play all day above our seasonal table, giving children a better understanding of a season we don't see much of here in South East Queensland.

Welcome to 2026.
Everyone is rested and ready for another year of fun and learning.
Attached are some photo's of our learning spaces that we are starting the year off with. This year I have added a little projector to scaffold further learning opportunities and a digital microscope for viewing the small creatures we find in our garden.
We enjoy a slow pedagogy where children are allowed time to fully immerse in their environment before any changes are made.
Wishing everyone a happy and fulfilling year ahead.
