Catching up with Naseili

Since we first shared Naseili’s story, his NAISDA journey has continued on stage, in the studio and on Country.

He has performed in NAISDA productions under the direction of Katina Olsen and Jasmin Sheppard, and in Echoing the Future, directed by Charles Korenho, including Blake Escott’s Save My Files.

Earlier this month, Naseili was also part of the NAISDA cohort that travelled to Garma Festival to learn, connect and bungul alongside the Dätiwuy Clan.

NAISDA is seeking a Head of Teaching & Learning to help shape the next chapter of First Nations arts education.

At NAISDA, learning extends beyond the classroom. It is experienced through culture, creativity, community and Country, bringing together nationally accredited education, Indigenous Knowings, cultural practice and contemporary creative disciplines.

We are looking for an experienced education leader to provide strategic leadership across this unique learning environment and join NAISDA’s Executive Leadership Team at an important time of growth and renewal.

The Head of Teaching and Learning will lead a multidisciplinary team of trainers, educators and specialists, oversee the delivery of NAISDA’s nationally accredited qualifications and guide the next phase of curriculum development, ensuring educational excellence remains grounded in Indigenous Knowings, culture and the needs and aspirations of our Developing and Practising Artists.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the future direction of Australia’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing arts training organisations, and to a model of education that empowers artists, lifelong learners and future cultural and creative leaders

Students considering NAISDA often wonder: If I get in, where do I live?

Moving away from home is a big step. That's why NAISDA offers heavily subsidised accommodation and student support to help you feel at home and succeed in your training.

If you're 18 or over, you'll have your own room in one of our shared student cottages on campus. If you're under 18, or need additional support, you'll live with one of our accredited local homestay families. Many students tell us it feels like having a second family, safe, welcoming and supportive.

It's been a big 12 months since we had a yarn with Practising Artist Maria.

Fresh from performing at Garma Festival in Yolŋu choreographer (and NAISDA graduate) Rosealee Pearson's Song Spirals, Maria joined an outstanding cast of NAISDA graduates bringing Yolŋu women's voices, milkarri (crying songlines), knowledge, kinship and Country to life through this powerful dance-theatre work. Created in close collaboration with community, Song Spirals has already toured to sold-out seasons at Darwin Festival and the Sydney Opera House before returning home to Arnhem Land for Garma.

Alongside her training, Maria was also selected for Legs On The Wall's Leg Up 2026 professional development program.

Over 12 months, a small group of emerging artists work alongside the company, sharing physical and theatrical practice while developing their skills and creating pathways to future professional opportunities.

We're incredibly proud to see Maria embracing these opportunities and continuing to grow as an artist.

Applications are open for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 16+ to join NAISDA in 2027.

Study with Australia’s leading First Nations registered arts training organisation (RTO Code 5639), with nationally accredited Dance Practice qualifications or the new CUA40425 Certificate IV in Live Production and Technical Services, creating pathways across dance, choreography, performance, lighting, sound, staging and production.

Students learn with mob, gain industry experience and build the skills and connections for careers in the performing arts.
