A significant change for Early Childhood Education and Care came into effect on 1 August — and every service leader and educator supporting children with disability needs to understand what it means.

From 1 August 2026, the Disability Standards for Education 2005 were extended to cover most ECEC services, bringing much clearer obligations around access, participation, consultation and reasonable adjustments for children with disability.

So what does this actually mean in practice?

What is considered a reasonable adjustment?
What responsibilities do services have around enrolment and participation?
How do we work well with families while balancing the needs and realities of the service?
And what does genuinely inclusive practice look like day to day?

This Thursday, Jenny Chegwidden will be joining us for a timely CEL Masterclass exploring Supporting Children with Additional Needs — helping leaders and educators understand both the changing landscape and how to translate inclusive practice into the everyday life of their service.

With these changes coming into effect just weeks ago, this is an important conversation for our sector.

We’re still taking in everything that happened at our 2026 Christian Early Learning Retreat. 🤍

The conversations.
The stillness.
The laughter around the tables.
The beautiful hospitality of The Hermitage.
And, most importantly, what God was doing in the lives of those who came.

“It was amazing. The location, the food and the hospitality, but most importantly all of the presentations were spot on what I needed at this time. Thank you.”

There is something very special about making space to step away from the everyday demands of leadership and simply listen, receive, reflect and remember.

And we’re delighted to tell you that we’ll be returning to The Hermitage in 2027.

What a beautiful way to finish our retreat! 🤍

Our final day was such a special one. It was wonderful to see everyone connect, enjoy themselves, share in the laughter and conversations, and simply have the opportunity to slow down and be together.

We finished the retreat on such a high and are so grateful for the time we’ve shared, the connections that have been made and all that God has done throughout the weekend.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this RISE retreat so special. We’re already looking forward to next year! 💛

✨ RISE Retreat 2026 | One More Day To Go ✨

What a beautiful few days it has been at our RISE Retreat, creating space to step away from the everyday, connect deeply with one another, and most importantly, draw closer to God.
And we still have one more day together!

This morning, we were incredibly blessed by Rev Dr Tania Harris, who shared a powerful session on hearing God’s voice in the overwhelmed. In the midst of the noise, responsibilities and demands of life and leadership, we were reminded of the importance of creating space to listen, recognise His voice and respond to what He is saying.

This afternoon, a huge thank you to 1530 Wellness for leading us through such an energetic and uplifting Praise & Move session. What a joyful way to spend the afternoon, moving, laughing, worshipping and praising God together!

RISE has been about more than stepping away from work. It has been about connection, renewal, encouragement and encountering God together.

One more day to connect.
One more day to be refreshed.
One more day to listen.
One more day to RISE.

Celebrating Early Learning Matters Week 🥰

This week, we join early learning communities across Australia in celebrating Early Learning Matters Week.

It is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the profound impact high-quality early learning and care has on children, families and communities — and to celebrate the educators and leaders who make that impact possible every day.

At Christian Early Learning, we know the early years are about far more than preparing children for school.

They are foundational years in which children develop confidence, curiosity and a love of learning. They are years filled with discovery, play, relationships and moments of wonder. Most importantly, they are years in which children begin to understand who they are and experience what it means to be known, valued and deeply loved.

To every educator, service leader, teacher, support team member and volunteer within our community: thank you.

Thank you for the environments you create, the relationships you nurture and the countless moments of care and encouragement that may appear small but carry lifelong significance.

Your work matters.

Your presence matters.

And the way you faithfully serve children and families matters.

As we celebrate Early Learning Matters Week, may we continue to advocate for the importance of the early years, honour those called to serve within them and champion every child’s opportunity to learn, belong and flourish. 🥳

INCLUSION STARTS HERE ...

From 1 August 2026, the Disability Standards for Education will extend to most early learning and care service types, clarifying services’ existing responsibilities and reinforcing every child’s right to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.

But meaningful inclusion is about more than access.

It asks us to notice what may prevent a child from participating fully - and to consider how our environments, routines, communication and practices can be adjusted so every child has the opportunity to belong, contribute and flourish.

With these changes commencing tomorrow, our upcoming webinar with Jenny Chegwidden could not be more timely.

Cultivating Inclusive Learning Environments for Children with Additional Needs
