The Committee held a small farewell Morning Tea for Brian Springett on Monday 15th June. Brian moved from the Gold Coast to Gosford to be closer to family. Brian has been involved with Seniors on the Net for over 15 years as both a Tutor & Committee Member.

Brian said he enjoyed his time with SOTN and has made some great lifelong friends, he enjoyed assisting Members with their digital skills and connecting with them at all levels. Brian thanked the Committee Members & Volunteers he worked with for their support to him and his late wife.

Brian was presented with a card and small gift by our Treasurer John Heath. Brian thanked everyone for arranging his send off saying he was already missing us all and thanked us for a wonderful 15 years being part of the SOTN Team.

🚨 Have you received a suspicious email lately? You're not alone.

With big news about health insurance changes and Centrelink payments doing the rounds, scammers are taking advantage — sending fake emails pretending to be your bank, Medicare, or the government.

These emails look VERY real. But there are simple things you can look for to protect yourself.

Here are 3 quick warning signs of a fake email:

🔴 The sender's email address looks odd — e.g. it says "CommBank" but the address is something like [email protected]

🔴 It uses urgent language — "Your account has been suspended!" or "Action required immediately!"

🔴 It asks you to click a link to verify your details, update your password, or claim a refund

👉 The golden rule: When in doubt, don't click. Go directly to the website by typing it into your browser instead.

Want to learn more and test your skills? The free Be Connected website (run by the Australian Government's eSafety Commissioner) has a brilliant guide — including a quiz to test how good you are at spotting fake emails!
