What a god damn year 2021 has been.

Are you as exhausted as I am? 😴

While I can admit this year has brought a lot of joy, I feel like grief has been the main character of 2021.

Since the start of the pandemic, we have experienced so much loss. We have grieved the lives of loved ones and said goodbye to people who we once considered invincible.

But on top of that, we have each grieved what was once ‘normal’ in our lives.

We have grieved…

the death of our social lives.
the death of big travel dreams.
the death of relationships.
the death of career goals.
the death of empathy.
the death of conversations that aren’t underpinned by the impact of covid-19.
the death of stability.
the death of control.

And it makes sense for us to feel so… flat.

Look. Grief is hard. Whether you are grieving life or a career, it is damn difficult.

But… what I’ve learned from this grief is that it’s okay to feel sh*tty for a while. And it’s okay to feel negative or to feel a little hopeless.

And it’s okay to feel like everything is falling apart.

Because when things fall apart or break, there’s always an opportunity to clean everything up and glue the pieces back together.

So, for anyone else who has been grieving this year, I want to say that I see you. I hear you. And I hope the upcoming year brings you new life, new dreams, and a fresh glue stick for any and all inevitable breaks in 2022.

Happy holidays friends ❤️

How often do you feel like quitting because you’ve told yourself you SHOULD be further along?

Maybe you’ve had thoughts about…

💭 How much money you *should* have made
💭 How many offers you *should* have added to your business.
💭 How far you *should* have progressed in your education and career goals.

Want to know the one thing all of these thoughts have in common? 👉🏽 The heavy expectation to succeed in a very specific way.

While some expectations are healthy, others can be discouraging.

Expectations may help to keep you motivated, but they AREN’T guidelines for your success or happiness.

They’re just expectations. A single idea we have attached to success.

If you can take expectations for what they are (an idea/thought), you can release the burden you may be carrying that makes you feel like you’re obliged to meet a set expectations.

So, what sort of expectations have you placed on yourself recently? What do you want to let go of?

Have you ever wondered why it’s so difficult to achieve your goals?

Researchers have identified one HUGE reason why some goals lead to bigger results and success than others.

Swipe through 👉🏽

In your business, it may be helpful to reflect on the goals you have set for yourself.

Have they been made to grow your skillsets, teach you new things about yourself, and enhance the creative process?

Or have you been focused on the outcome, and missing out on the opportunities of growth throughout the journey?

While neither goal is wrong, you may find yourself more successful when you lean towards learning-oriented goals.

Learned something new? Don’t forget to hit ‘like’!

You are more than the stress you are currently feeling. You deserve compassion, kindness, and strength.

Take what you need ❤️

How do your emotions impact your workday?

When you’re feeling sad, stressed, or overwhelmed, do you allow yourself to feel these emotions, or do they become you?

Something that may be helpful when it comes to your emotions, is understanding the parts of the emotional process you have control over.

While you may not have control of the emotions you feel or have, you *do* have control over how they impact you.

You can choose to feel your emotions, allow them in, and process them how you need, or you can give complete control to your emotions and embody them, be them.

But what happens when we let emotions control us?

Everything becomes a symptom of that emotion.

The off milk you tried to drink? A symptom of your bad mood.

The grumpy man on the bus? A symptom of your bad mood.

The breakdown of your client relationship? A symptom of your bad mood.

Alternatively… if we choose to feel our emotions, let them be a feeling, and nothing more, we don’t feel the need to *be* them, or even to necessarily act upon them.

We take control over how we respond to our emotions, and how we respond to the outside world.

Think about how emotions show up in your life and how you respond to them. Is this something you’d like to change?

If so, book a FREE coaching session (link in bio) with me so we can work on how you manage your emotions and create an emotional regulation process that works for you, not against you ❤️

Is stress keeping you captive in your business?

If you’re currently experiencing stress in your business, it can be hard to find the motivation to work through the discomfort and aim for your goals.

It’s so important to know if stress is the reason for how you are feeling in your business so you can begin treating your symptoms.

Here are 3 signs stress may be taking over your business 👆🏽

Remember, looking for solutions to these 3 signs may not necessarily reduce your stress. You may need to introduce stress-reducing strategies to treat overall stress ❤️

P.S This is not an exhaustive list, but a few common indicators that you may be feeling stressed in your business.

Unpopular opinion: The goal to work less is causing you more stress.

Before you come for me 💀, hear me out…

In the past few years, there have been conflicting conversations about how many hours you should be working and how hard you should work in those hours. Business owners are telling you that you SHOULD be hustling but also that you SHOULD be working less and charging more 🤯

But is either advice more accurate than the other?

As a small business owner who is solely focused on building their client roster, building brand awareness, and simply earning enough money to get by, the expectation/goal or (dare I say) *pressure* to work LESS may make you feel like you’re:

▪️ Working too much
▪️ Doing it ‘wrong’
▪️ Growing slower than other business owners
▪️ Failing

Alternatively, you may be working WAY too much, and it would be a great idea to cut down on your workload and increase your prices.

There’s no one ‘true’ answer, just a lot of grey area that changes depending on your unique situation and your goals.

So, what can you take away from this post?

Understanding that the pace you're moving in is exactly the right pace you need to move for where you’re at, and to continue to have compassion with yourself during each stage of your journey.

What are your thoughts? 💭

You deserve to feel supported.

With everything else you’ve got going on in your business, it’s OK to ask for help.

In fact, it’s encouraged!

Tag a business owner to let them know you’re here for them ❤️

How long does it take you to work through an emotion?

Imagine if we could move on from our most challenging emotions in just a few minutes! What could you achieve with all that extra time?! (I know I would be able to get a lot more done 😅)

Scientist, Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, believes it only takes 90 seconds.

Can you believe that?!

Here’s what she found:

▪️ Pausing for 90 seconds when you’re stressed, or feeling triggered, to label the feeling you’re experiencing (e.g. “I am feeling sad”) can reduce activity in the amygdala.

▪️ MRI studies of the brain have shown that this process of labelling and addressing your emotions can calm the parts of your brain that leads to emotional outbursts, which helps you regain control over your emotions.

▪️ If you’re still experiencing an emotion or feeling after you’ve taken 90 seconds to label it, it’s suggested to look at the thoughts you are having that could be contributing to the re-triggering of that emotion and the 90 second cycle

Now, here are my thoughts:

👉🏽 Initially, I LOVED this concept. Knowing that our brain can literally process an emotion within 90 seconds means that it’s possible to reduce the time we spend stewing over negative emotions AND can increase the speed of recovery when we are feeling low. Which is a win!

👉🏽 I think it’s fantastic that our brains are in support of us navigating our emotions in a healthy and balanced way.

👉🏽 On the other hand… I would hate for this to be used as another ‘quick fix’. We have been living and feeling our emotions for (if you’re like me) 28+ years! That’s a long time to be forming emotional habits and patterns of thinking. Implementing the process of “emotion labelling” is going to take time, patience, and A LOT of practice.

What are your thoughts? Let’s talk about it in the comments!

Do you always feel busy? 😰

Like there is never enough time in the day for you to work and take care of yourself?

[Share this with a business owner who deserves a break! 💌]

You may be falling into patterns of toxic productivity...

The main difference you will find between 'balanced' and 'toxic' productivity is how you feel after being 'productive'.

Balanced productivity will leave you feeling 👉🏽 accomplished, content, and even restful.

Whilst toxic productivity will leave you feeling 👉🏽 overwhelmed, anxious, guilty, and stressed.

Working in your business doesn't (and shouldn't!) need to drain and exhaust you.

Try to recognize your emotions and how your body feels at the end of your workday and assess whether you may need to implement some new boundaries within your business, so you can avoid the vicious cycle of toxic productivity!
