Here's a wonderful learning story from the kindergarten program at our Glenroy Hub Children's Centre for your Friday afternoon enjoyment! Thanks to Attiya and Han for sharing. ☺️🪴🌳
Community Roots: Our Kindergarten Tree Planting Day!
Our kindergarten recently partnered with the local council for an immersive tree-planting experience! Guided by a council arborist, the children eagerly donned their gardening gloves to help shape their shared environment. Children enthusiastically loosened the soil, safely handled earthworms discovered during the dig, and helped scoop a special nutrient mix into the planting hole.
Through reading "My Tree and Me" and collaborating with a community expert, our young learners developed a genuine sense of environmental responsibility. This wonderful partnership fostered incredible curiosity, scientific exploration, and a deep understanding of sustainable practices.
A massive thank you to the Merri-bek City Council team for making this collaboration possible. We can’t wait to watch both our trees, and our community connections grow!

Michelle from our Will Will Rook Preschool has shared a little overview of how the team is helping to inspire the next generation of bookworms!
"At Will Will Rook Kindergarten, the children in the Blue Group participate in a weekly Kinder Library program. Each week, children have the opportunity to choose their own book to take home in their personal library bag to enjoy with their families.
"Reading together is an important part of our kindergarten program, as it supports language development, early literacy skills, imagination, and a lifelong love of books. Sharing stories at home also provides valuable opportunities for families to connect and spend quality time together.
"Each week, children return their borrowed book and select a new one to take home. We are excited to encourage a love of reading both at kindergarten and at home through this special program."
Thanks for sharing Michelle! 🤓🌟📔

Linda our Teaching and Learning coach has finished up at NSEY after almost 5 years of dedicated service. Linda has made a huge impact on this organisation, and leaves a wonderful legacy in the relationships she built and the influence she had on pedagogy, practice and learning environments at NSEYC. We will miss her passion and warmth she brought to her work every day.
Here are some lovely words that Linda shared in her farewell:
“As I move on to my next chapter, I want to acknowledge the incredibly important work you do every day. You work alongside some of the most vulnerable children, families, and communities, and the impact you have should never be underestimated. Please know that the work you do is valued.i will miss you all so much and will carry the memories, experiences, and learnings from the past five years with me throughout my career. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of such a dedicated and passionate team, and I know that the lessons I have learned from you will continue to influence and inspire me wherever my journey takes me.”

A parent from our Moreland Kindergarten has shared their appreciation for the way the kinder team has supported their child, Marlee, by recognising and celebrating her Barapa Barapa culture and supporting her activism.
Mum Liz shared the following reflection:
“The National Walk for Truth reached Parliament House in Canberra on 27 May 2026. Marlee attended 3 public walks, and on the final day, at a local Melbourne event, Marlee carried a Walk for Truth sign that had been created by her, her educators and her friends at Moreland Kindergarten. It meant so much to us that Marlee’s educators wanted to help recognise Marlee’s culture as a proud Barapa Barapa young lady. After hearing about the Walk for Truth event, Marlee’s teacher Tammy researched and delivered an incredible session at kindergarten to connect with this activity Marlee had planned for National Reconciliation week. Thank you so much!”
Great work Marlee, Tammy and team! 🖤❤️💛
