🌱📚 Fracturing a Fairytale! 📚🌱

Our Prep students have been busy becoming authors! ✏️✨

As a class, we explored the much-loved fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk and learned how we can fracture a fairytale by taking a familiar story and changing some of its important elements.

Together, we put our imaginations to work to create our very own fractured version, changing characters, settings and events while still keeping parts of the original story we know and love. 🌈🪄

This was a wonderful way for our Preps to explore story structure, sequencing and character development, while discovering just how creative storytelling can be!

Who knew one beanstalk could grow so many new ideas? 🌱💭

💙 Celebrating our Dads & Special People 💙

What a wonderful week of Father’s Day celebrations at St Christopher’s!

We finished the week with our Father’s Day Breakfast, beautifully organised by our amazing Parents & Friends Association. Families enjoyed a delicious shared breakfast, a red carpet photo opportunity and an exciting raffle — a lovely way to spend the morning together and celebrate the dads, grandfathers and special people in our community.

A huge thank you to Drummond Golf Burwood for helping to provide some fantastic raffle prizes, and to Bakers Delight Burwood One for helping us with the delicious food for our shared breakfast. We are so grateful for your support!

Throughout the week, our students also had the opportunity to choose something special at the Father’s Day Stall and came together for our Father’s Day Assembly. Our Preps and some of our Year 1/2 students shared special presentations, and Fr Jacob led us in a beautiful Father’s Day blessing.

Thank you to our P&F, staff, families and everyone who helped make the week so special.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads, grandfathers and special people in our St Christopher’s community! 💙

🔢✨ Making Numbers Come to Life! ✨🔢

Our Year 1/2 mathematicians have been developing their understanding of number sequences and intervals through a fun, hands-on activity! 🧮📏

Working collaboratively in small groups, students cut and placed numbers along an empty number line, using their knowledge of 50s intervals to accurately represent numbers from 0–1000. 💯➡️

Through this activity, students practised identifying patterns 🔍, estimating where numbers belong 🤔 and explaining their mathematical thinking to their peers. 💬🧠

It was wonderful to see students working together, sharing strategies and building confidence in their understanding of place value and the number system! 🌟👏

🏮✨ Mandarin at St Christopher’s ✨🏮

To celebrate the Qixi Festival (七夕节), our students explored the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy (毛笔书法) 🖌️ and learnt about the story and cultural traditions behind Qixi.

Using Chinese brushes, students practised writing a short poem inspired by the festival:
🌙 七夕 🌙
七夕月儿明，
星河照夜空。
鹊桥天上起，
相会月光中。

Through this hands-on experience, students had the opportunity to practise writing Chinese characters while connecting their language learning with Chinese culture, traditions and storytelling. 🖌️📖✨

📚✨ Book Week at St Christopher’s! ✨📚

This week, our school has been celebrating the wonderful world of books for Book Week! 📖💫

A highlight was our whole-school Book Week Parade, where students and staff came dressed as some of their favourite book characters. We loved seeing the creativity, excitement and amazing costumes on display! 🧙‍♂️🦸‍♀️👸🐛

The celebrations continued in the classroom with lots of book-inspired learning. Students explored some of this year’s shortlisted books, shared their thoughts through book reviews, designed their own creative book covers and participated in a range of activities celebrating stories, authors and illustrators. 🎨✏️📕

A fantastic week celebrating the joy of reading and the magic that can be found inside a good book! 🌟📚

🚲 Bike Ed Fun! 🚲

Our Year 3–6 students enjoyed a fantastic day of Bike Ed, run by Bicycle Victoria!
Throughout the day, students developed their bike-handling skills, learnt about bike and road safety, and practised riding safely and confidently. It was wonderful to see everyone getting active, challenging themselves and having plenty of fun along the way! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️

A big thank you to Bicycle Victoria for providing such a fun and valuable learning experience for our students! 💙

🎉 That's a wrap on our eSafety Bullying Week series! 💻💙

Over the past few days, we've shared practical tips and conversation starters to help families navigate the online world together. While this series may be ending, the conversations shouldn't stop.

The best way to help children stay safe online is by keeping communication open. Regular chats about kindness, respect, privacy and what to do when something doesn't feel right can make a world of difference.

🌐 eSafety Conversations – Episode 4 💙 What if your child sees someone else being bullied online?

It can be hard for children to know what to do when they witness mean comments, hurtful messages or someone being left out online. They might feel unsure, worried or afraid of making things worse.

This is a great opportunity to talk with your child about being an upstander rather than a bystander.

💬 Encourage them to:
💙 Never like, share or forward hurtful posts.
🤝 Check in with the person who is being targeted and let them know they are not alone.
🚫 Avoid joining in or responding with more hurtful comments.
🗣️ Tell a trusted adult if they are worried about what they have seen.

Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Helping children understand that they have the power to support others online is an important step towards creating safer and kinder digital communities.

🎮 eSafety Conversations – Episode 3: Am I Being Kind Online?

Sometimes being mean online isn't obvious. A joke, a comment, or leaving someone out might seem harmless, but it can have a lasting impact on someone else.

This week, take a few minutes to chat with your child about what kindness looks like online. 💙

Here are some simple conversation starters:
💬 Have you ever seen someone being left out online?
💬 How would you feel if someone sent that message to you?
💬 Is it okay to share or forward a mean message?
💬 What could you do instead to help make the situation better?

The eSafety Commissioner reminds children to:
✨ Think before you hit send.
✨ Don't forward hurtful messages.
✨ Say sorry if you've hurt someone, even if you didn't mean to.
✨ Remember that getting "likes" is never worth hurting someone else.
✨ Ask a trusted adult for help if you're unsure what to do.

Helping children pause, think and choose kindness online builds empathy and creates safer digital spaces for everyone.

📱 eSafety Series for Kids – Episode 2: Someone Is Being Mean to Me Online

No child deserves to be treated badly online. 💙 If your child is experiencing cyberbullying, knowing what to do can make all the difference.

The eSafety Commissioner recommends these simple steps:
📸 Keep evidence by taking screenshots.
🎮 Report hurtful messages to the game or app.
🛡️ Report serious cyberbullying to eSafety for support.
🚫 Block or mute the person to stop further contact.

Most importantly, remind your child that they don't have to handle it alone. Encourage them to talk to a trusted adult as soon as something doesn't feel right.
Together, you can take the right steps to keep them safe online.
