Showing their Support

In the audience at our annual Gala Music Concert, it was great to welcome past Music Captains from left to right: Sabrina Goulmy (Class of 2025), Jacqueline Deng (Class of 2024), Elaine Shi (Class of 2023) and Jacinta Yan (Class of 2022) showing their support for our current musicians – an on-going connection to our school through a shared passion for music. They sat in a row of guests that included past Principal, Dr Ros Otzen and past Directors of Music, Wendy Taylor and Ophelia Bryant. Together they represented more than 40 years of encouraging and making music at Korowa.

Shall We Dance?

The Korovian Choir gave a great rendition of Kate Bush’s 1980s art-pop classic, Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God) at the annual Gala Concert held last week at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The Gala Concert is the annual showcase of Korowa’s extensive Junior and Senior Music program.

The choir chose this song to match the theme of this year’s concert Shall we Dance as the original music video featured a striking contemporary dance duet. The choir was accompanied and conducted by Jesika Clark (Class of 2012).

A great feature of the choir is that they are cross generational with members ranging from the Class of 1977 to the Class of 2022. The choir is non-auditioned and is open to all Korovians. It performs at various functions throughout the year and meets for rehearsal in the evening on the last Thursday of each month during term time. Last Friday, we welcomed former student leaders back for our first Head Prefect/ School Captains Reunion.

The reunion celebrated a shared leadership journey that connects generations of Korovians. It was wonderful to see past leaders reconnect, reminisce about their time at the School, and reflect on the impact of their year in leadership.

Last Friday, we welcomed former student leaders back for our first Head Prefect/ School Captains Reunion. In preparation for the event, we took a deep dive into Korowa's archives and uncovered some fascinating stories from our 136-year history.

From our first Head Prefect, Loris Coleman in 1912 to the first mother and daughter to both become Head Prefect and Dux of the School, the records revealed a legacy of leadership spanning generations. We also discovered that Sue Nattrass AO remains the only Korovian to have achieved the unique distinction of serving as Vice Head Prefect in 1957, and Head Prefect in 1958 as well as being Dux of the School.

Enjoy some of the highlights from Korowa's extraordinary history of student leadership. Korovians present ranged from the Class of 1959 to the School Co-Captains of 2026 – a span of 67 years.

The Korovian Fellowship Grant reflects the alumni association's commitment to connection, celebration, and appreciation. The Grant aims to support Korovians whose pursuits align with Korowa's values of curiosity, integrity, and courage, underpinned by a longstanding tradition of service to others.

The Fellowship Grant is also consistent with Korowa's long-cherished identity of valuing effort and celebrating achievement, as embodied in the School's Latin motto, Palma Non Sine Pulvere — no reward without effort.

The Grant is open to all Korovians and Honorary Korovians who are no longer employed by the School. It may be awarded annually, with recipient/s eligible to receive funding in a given calendar year.

Nina Phan (Class of 2020) wins gold at the Australian Open Diving Championships

Congratulations to Korovian Nina (pictured centred) on an outstanding achievement at the Australian Open Diving Championships in Brisbane.

Representing Victoria, Nina claimed gold in the Women's 1m Springboard event, rising to the top of one of Australia's premier diving competitions. The Australian Open Diving Championships, delivered by Diving Australia, bring together the country's leading springboard and platform divers to compete for national titles and representative honours.

This result is a testament to Nina's dedication, skill, and countless hours of training. We are incredibly proud of all she has achieved and look forward to following her continued success in the sport.

Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) | The King's Birthday Honours List

We are proud to share that a further two Korovians have been recognised in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours, receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM). The number of Korovians who have received Australian Honours now totals 42, reflecting Korowa's long standing commitment to service and the many graduates who continue to make a positive difference in their communities.

Susie Rodgers -Wilson (Loder)was recognised for service to the community through charitable organisations. Over many decades, Susie has contributed to a wide range of community organisations, including BlueCross, EdConnect, mecwacare and the Mallacoota Doctors Search Team. She has also held leadership roles within the Old Wesley Collegians' Football Club and remains a strong supporter of women in sport. Korovians may remember Susie as Wilkinson House Captain in 1970.

Diana Sawyer (Camm)) was honoured for service to the communities of Barwon South West. Diana has dedicated her career to education, local history and community advocacy. An accomplished author, she has also served as Director of the Queenscliffe Historical Museum and has been a volunteer researcher there since 2008. Her commitment to community service extends through her work with the Epilepsy Foundation and the Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens. Diana was School Captain in 1959, demonstrating the leadership and community spirit that would shape her lifelong contribution to others. She is the daughter of long-serving Korowa staff member, Lorna Camm.

There was plenty of pink pride at Legally Blonde Jr., but for one family, the show carried an extra special meaning.

Liza Williams, who starred as Elle Woods in her first lead role, was cheered on by three generations of Korovians: her mother, Lucinda Williams (Wootton, Class of 2001), aunt, Kirrily Wootton (Class of 2003), and grandmother, Jeanne Sorich (Douglas, Class of 1973).
From Jeanne's time at Korowa in the 1970s to Lucinda and Kirrily's involvement in Performing Arts, and now Liza taking centre stage, it is a story woven through generations of school life.

Liza is the fourth generation of her family to attend Korowa, continuing a connection that spans more than 70 years when her great-great aunt, Barbara Dance graduated in 1954.

Watching Liza shine as Elle Woods was a proud moment for a family with deep connections in our community. We have no doubt this is just the beginning for Liza of many memorable performances to come.
