This week for our song writing session we explored using our 5 senses- sight, sound, taste, smell and touch for creative and expressive writing. We went for a mindfulness walk, where we observed our surroundings paying close attention to these senses ๐๐๐ค๐ ๐
We ended up sitting at the rocks and enjoying the ocean, which is both a great grounding activity for mental wellbeing, as well as a source of inspiration for the participants writing ๐ซ๐ฅฐ
We can't wait for our next session - thank you Regional Sounds!
Children and young people thrive when they grow up safe, connected and supported in their family, community and culture. They have the right to grow up in environments that support them according to their needs, now and into the future.

A tiny TED talker with a BIG message!

In 2021, SHINE welcomed a student whose resilience inspired us all. Despite facing traumatic experiences at home and enduring the weight of bullying at school, Emily showed immense growth. A particular challenge for her was the cruel doubts others cast upon her Aboriginal heritage. It left a mark on her year, reflected in her suspensions and an low school attendance.
However, Emily entered 2022 with renewed vigour and one clear goal in mind: to be part of the Shark Bay Eco-Leadership Camp. ๐ฟ
Join us next week to discover how Emily transformed her attendance and became a leader amongst her peers.

To be the listening ear for the whispers of dreams, hopes, and fears is a blessing and a privilege.

Recently a beautiful moment of synchronicity unfolded between myself and our incredible SHINE facilitator, Jodie. Just as I shared this snapshot from our previous SHINE camp, my phone buzzed with a call from Jodie. "Can you believe it?" she exclaimed, "I JUST set that same picture as my screensaver!"
We burst into excited chatter, marvelling at our perfect synchronicity (great minds think a like!) and eagerly discussing our anticipation for the camp. Our hearts swelled thinking of how the girls have been pouring their efforts and passion into preparing for this experience.
This was more than just a coincidental chat; it was a moment that brought everything full circle, emphasizing that when you're in tune with a mission, everything aligns. ๐๐

Empowering Resilient Young Women๐ฑ
School camps are more than just adventures; they are transformative experiences that shape young minds and hearts. Let's dive deeper into one of the essential aspects of school camps: Resilience Building.
School camps challenge students to step outside their comfort zones and overcome obstacles. Through these experiences, they develop resilience, learning that setbacks are opportunities for growth. ๐ฟ
During our Eco-Leadership Camp, the SHINE girls we support have the chance to encounter various challenges, from navigating the wilderness to engaging in teamwork and leadership tasks. These experiences might be outside their usual routines, but they are precisely what foster resilience and inner strength. ๐ณ๐ช
When faced with obstacles, they learn to adapt, problem-solve, and embrace the power of perseverance. It's in these moments that they discover their true capabilities and understand that even in the face of difficulty, they can rise, thrive, and achieve great things. ๐
By supporting SHINE and our Eco-Leadership Camp, you contribute to creating a safe space where these girls can grow, learn, and develop the resilience they need to face life's challenges head-on. Your donation goes directly towards providing accommodation, transport, insurance, supervisors, food, toiletries, safety items, and activities, removing financial barriers and empowering these incredible girls to reach new heights. ๐

๐จ๐ NAIDOC Week at Rangeway Primary! ๐๐จ
Our SHIMMER students commemorated NAIDOC Week with great enthusiasm and creativity! This year's theme, "For our Elders," inspired the girls to express their respect and appreciation for the special elders in their lives. Each SHIMMER girl painted 1 or 2 beautiful artworks, accompanied by heartfelt explanations of why their chosen elder is so important to them and the significance behind their paintings. We are incredibly proud of the girls for reflecting on the important people in their lives and honouring their culture.
These thoughtful and meaningful paintings, along with the heartfelt write-ups, will be proudly displayed at our upcoming family day next term. Afterward, we will present the artworks to our special elders as a token of gratitude and love.
To further embrace the NAIDOC theme, the girls also indulged in a delightful pizza party and captured some fun-filled photos to celebrate the end of Term. It's beautiful to witness the joy and unity within our SHIMMER community as we come together to celebrate our culture and each other.
