Hi Mandy
Just wanted to say that I was so impressed with the Shine Girls that helped at the Mayors Mystery Bus Tour morning tea on Monday 12 November. They were all hard working, listened to instructions and just got on with the job. Such an amazing group of girls. Congratulations on all the work you and staff invest into these respectful and helpful young women. It was such a pleasure and bonus to have them on the day.
Could you pass my congratulations on. In case they dont remember who I am- im the lady who distributed and wrapped the food out for them at the end of the day.
Wow what a night....so proud of you Isabelle Croswell being a finalist for the WA Apprentice of the year. Your journey has been amazing. So pleased Mandy Jolley could be a part of your special night. The world is your future. #wata18 #centralregionaltafe #lovehairdressing #getyourlocksoff Louise Collard Jackson McEvoy
Happy Holidays
Go girls!!!! You all are magic.

✨SHINE at SHINE Mount Gibson Iron Limited ✨

We were lucky enough to take some of our year 10 Shine students from Champion Bay Senior High School on a minesite camp! Mount Gibson Iron Limited is one of our amazing sponsors and hosted us for the afternoon.

We were treated to a delicious lunch and tour of the accommodation camp and minesite, and got to meet and hear from SOOOO many different people working in the industry - from the head chef, cleaners, dump truck drivers, engineers, surveyor, geologists to supervisors and the general manager! 👷🏾‍♀️⛏️👩🏼‍🍳👩🏻‍💻🚜👩🏾‍💼

It was incredible to see all of the different jobs involved in mining, some of which the students are very interested in pursuing!

thank you for an amazing opportunity Mark and the team at the Shine Mount Gibson Iron Limited project!

This evening we are giving our heartfelt thanks to Dale and the team at Joseph Radiators & Air Conditioning - Natrad Geraldton who very kindly regassed the aircon for our Shine bus ❤❤

We were a week out from visiting our friends at Mount Gibson Iron Limited and 29Metals with some of our Shine students, and in need of the aircon fully working with the weather starting to heat up again ☀😅

Thanks for your generosity Dale- we will definitely be nipping into Joseph Radiators & Air Conditioning - Natrad Geraldton again soon 🙌

We can't wait to go on our STEAMpunk Adventure this Thursday, with our SHINE and STEM students at Champion Bay Senior High School 💡💡💡

We so excited about and proud of our next STEAMpunk Adventure!

Tomorrow we head to Geraldton where we get to work with the fabulous team at Shine Today.

This time, we will be running a 2 day workshop for Shine participants in years 7-10 at Champion Bay Senior High School where we use design thinking principles to explore problems or needs that the girls think it is important to solve, and come up with solutions that blend human and STEM skills. To help inspire and trigger ideas, we plan to showcase a number of local women role models who will share their journeys.

The objective is to build transferable skills, confidence, language, relationships and entrepreneurial mindsets. I cannot wait to see what these amazing young women come up with 🧡

Thank you to Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation Scitech Inspiring Western Australia for the support.

Some more incredible photos from our photo shoot project. This time from the wonderful Rosa year 9 group from Champion Bay Senior High School 🤩🤩

The support and encouragement that the girls gave each other to be vulnerable and step in front of the camera was heart warming. We have loved seeing their confidence grow throughout the project 🙌

A big thank again to Kym Duncan Photographer, Hot Locs Hair Body & Soul and Devina and her team from VTS, for bringing the girls visions to life 💭📸

We are getting very excited for our upcoming STEAMpunk Adventures workshop with award wining thought leader Gry Stene from STEAM Engine Global

Our Shine students from Champion Bay Senior High School will take part in the STEAMpunk Adventures workshop next week. The workshop will focus on real world issues in our society.

After hearing from inspiring women from across the Midwest, students will use technology and props to navigate the issues they are most passionate about, while being supported to create their own solutions ❔💡

“To solve real-world problems, we need compassion, critical thinking, communication, creativity, a clear focus on quality, the ability to understand the subject matter, and a collaborative mindset. These skills are not encouraged within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics), but fostered within Arts and Humanities, making the case for STEAM (STEM + Arts). By bringing in skills and experiences from Arts & Humanities into the STEM landscape, we create the STEAM required to power our future.” - Gry Stene

A special thank you to Inspiring Western Australia, Scitech, STEAM Engine Global and Champion Bay Senior High School for making the workshop possible 🥰

🌸SHINE SPONSORS DAY 2021🌸

Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors and partners who joined us for a lovely day at Champion Bay Senior High School to celebrate their incredible contribution to the work that we do.

Starting with a special Welcome to Country with our dear friend Minangu (Donna Ronan) and a series of speeches from our Board, staff, CBSHS Deputy Principal and Shine students, we all then came together to create some paper everlasting flowers to add our wildflower project.

"With the right nurture and elements not just one everlasting flower will grow but thousands, together their impact is staggering and breath taking. We want this for all young girls and women in the Midwest, for everyone to thrive and be interconnected, by working together." - Barbara Thompson, Shine Program Manager.

RUOk?
Do you want to talk?
You right?
How are feeling today?
What happened?

We might be a little late to the party, but every day is important to check in with those around us.

Every week the Mount Magnet SHIMMER girls ask each other how they are feeling. Today we decided to mix it up and think about different ways we can check in with our friends and family.

If you need support, please reach out to someone you trust or one of the numbers in the image below. There are people ready to yarn day or night ☀️🌌📞

✨Thankful Tuesday ✨

Today we are thankful for our special friend in Donna Ronan and everything that she continues to share with us and the girls. Donna organised a number of different activities for us on the recent SHIMMER Camp ⛺️

We started the camp off with a heart warming Welcome to Country and Donna teaching the girls how to make face scrubs using native ingredients such as quandongs, which the girls had to crack open to get the seed.

The following afternoon we were treated to a guided bush walk along the Chapman River, where Donna showed us significant sites and different plants for eating and cooking 🌿🥾🌳

We finished the camp Sunday morning with a beautiful smoking ceremony which the girls were invited to partake in.

Thank you Donna for enriching us all with your knowledge and creating a very special cultural experience for the SHIMMER girls ❤️❤️❤️

It's fair to say the flying fox was a huge crowd pleaser among our SHIMMER students on camp! 🍂🌳🌊

The girls worked together to help each other using the equipment, running the rope up the hill for the next person and cheering everyone on! We were so proud of them for encouraging and supporting each other, and helping the girls who were a little hesitant at that start.... They didn't want to stop in the end ❤️❤️
