🏃‍♂️ AUSTRALIAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 🇦🇺

A fantastic effort from Year 7 Specialist AFL Program student Isaac French, who represented Victoria at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Ballarat today! 💙

Competing in the U14 age group, Isaac finished an impressive 16th overall and 7th for Victoria against some of the best young cross country runners in Australia.

Isaac was very happy with his result, and even more impressive considering the course resembled a mud pit! 😆🌧️

Congratulations Isaac on a brilliant achievement and a great experience representing Victoria! 👏💪🧡💙

A great morning for our Western Heights College Specialist Sports Program students at the annual BIS Sport Breakfast, held at GMHBA Stadium yesterday.

SSP Netball students Lexie Whatley, Jack Te Paa and Ellie Rundle, along with Principal Fiona Taylor and Head Coach of Netball Susan Meaney, represented WHC at this fantastic event, which raises funds and awareness to support local athletes across the Barwon Region.

Our students had the opportunity to hear from an impressive line-up of guest speakers, including Simone McKinnis, former Australian netballer and multiple-premiership Melbourne Vixens coach; Lee Troop, Olympic marathon runner; and Megan Moody, Geelong United NBL1 Head Coach.

They also enjoyed the opportunity to meet and mingle with Christine Couzens MP, State Member for Geelong and Parliamentary Secretary for First Peoples, and Stretch Kontelj, City of Greater Geelong Mayor.

It was a wonderful opportunity for Lexie, Jack and Ellie to hear from accomplished athletes and coaches, connect with leaders from across our community, and proudly represent Western Heights College.

Congratulations to our WHC Intermediate Netball Boys who progressed through the qualifying rounds to State Finals next week!

A fantastic effort all day, with a tough final match against Crusoe College the Boys remained undefeated and will advance to Finals Day.

🇦🇺 RIAK IS AN EMU! 🏀

A huge congratulations to SSP Basketball star Riak Akhuar, who has been selected to represent Australia with the U18 Emus at the FIBA U18 Asia Cup! 💚💛

The selection caps off an incredible 12 months for Riak. After representing Australia at the U17 FIBA World Cup, Riak has continued to take huge strides in his development, recently earning a scholarship to Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence, and now another opportunity to pull on the green and gold.

Everyone at Western Heights College and the SSP Basketball Program is incredibly proud of Riak and can’t wait to watch him represent Australia at the Asia Cup next week! 🇦🇺🔥

A huge congratulations to Riak Akhuar on earning a scholarship to the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence! 👏🇦🇺

Riak’s journey has been incredible. From arriving at Western Heights College, to representing Victoria in state teams, playing a pivotal role in our U17 National Championship win last year, wearing the green and gold at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup winning a bronze medal, and now taking the next step into Australia’s premier basketball development program.

Riak has embraced every challenge with humility, hard work and a team-first attitude. Watching him grow as both a player and a person has been a privilege, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything he has achieved.

This milestone also marks another special moment for our program, with Riak becoming the third Western Heights College SSP Basketball student in the past six years to earn a scholarship to the Centre of Excellence, following Sienna Harvey and his brother, Roor Akhuar.

Congratulations, Riak! Everyone at Western Heights College is incredibly proud of you, and we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next. The best is still to come! 💙🧡

CONGRATULATIONS INTERMEDIATE GIRLS NETBALLERS 🙌

Well done to our Intermediate Girls Netball Teams that competed in today’s Netball Victoria Schools Championships
at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne. The Navy team were undefeated in their pool matches
and Orange team won 2 matches in their pool. Some fantastic performances during the day.

WHC Navy team now qualifies for the Netball Victoria Schools Championships Finals at end of the month.

Well done all players who participated on your efforts and sportsmanship. A big thank you to WHC umpires Grace Elliott and WHC Alumni Madi McCartney and parents who assisted scoring.

BOUND FOR STATE SSV FINALS

Congratulations to Intermediate Boys Netball Team winning the Western Metropolitan Region title yesterday in Altona.

They had a very dominant day and delivered in the Grandfinal 31-16 defeating Altona.
The Boys have booked a spot in the SSV State Finals at Waverley end of August. 👏

🏀 Congratulations to Year 10 Specialist Basketball student Elijah Whiteford on representing Victoria at last week’s School Sport Victoria Team Vic Under 18 National Championships.

Eli was part of the Victorian team that claimed the Silver Medal, finishing the tournament undefeated before a thrilling Gold Medal match against Queensland. In a contest that went right down to the wire, Victoria narrowly went down 67-62, capping off an outstanding week of basketball.

The tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for Vic metro and country athletes to come together, forming a talented group that played outstanding team basketball throughout the championships.

A Silver Medal is an achievement to be incredibly proud of. Congratulations, Eli, on representing both Victoria and Western Heights College with distinction.

There’s no slowing down for Eli. This week he’ll represent WHC at the Champions Cup qualifying tournament, before heading to Shanghai as a member of the Australian Select Team. We wish Eli the very best for another exciting opportunity on the international stage! 🇦🇺🏀
