On a day like today, we are tempted not to take a side but just to let people know that the current Chief Operating Officer of the Brisbane Lions is one of ours… Sam Graham! Good luck today to both teams and here’s hoping all ex-Newcombites have a great day wherever you watch the game.

The AFL congratulates Sam Graham on his appointment as Chief Operating Officer of the Brisbane Lions

Hi everyone!

Another request. Is there anyone who is or has been a town planner who would be able to come and speak to our students next term?

It would be on the 1st of November or there abouts.

Please let me know if you can help with this.

It's "Where are they now" Wednesday!

As promised last week, I thought people might like to know the alumni that have returned to work at the school. I will just do a list as I haven't asked everyone about photos at this stage - But here we go!

Scott McLeod (Principal)
Ann Roberts (Head of Arts)
Wes Prosser (Maths and Science)
Ingrid Marshall (Librarian)
Rowan Klingberg (Teacher of Maths and PE)
Sarah Cole nee Purcell (Teacher in our Nobody's Fool Theatre)
Lincoln Beckworth (Teacher at the Victorian Sailing School)
Megan Jolly (Head of Senior Years)
Hannah Demopoulos (Attendance Officer)
Corey Bell (Maths and PE Teacher and Sports Co-ordinator)
Crystal Muir (Student Wellbeing support)
Miriam Ramsay (Teacher of Indonesian)

Wow, I didn't realise there were so many until I started typing!

Two of them are in the attached photo... can you find them?

Do you have fond memories of any of these people? What would you like to do if you came back to work at Newcomb? We always like remembering the people who have walked into (and then out of) our school doors.

Something that used to only be the domain of primary schools, the fun has filtered up to the secondary folks! Thanks to Ingrid Marshall (our librarian, alumna and former alumni co-ordinator) for all her work in promoting reading in our school.

"May we ask a favour" Monday!

Do you have a family member or friend who hasn't liked our group yet? Can we ask that you recommend one person to follow our page, so we can build the number of people we can stay in touch with about the school.

Thanks so much!

Throwback Thursday!
In the theme of Scott being our latest principal, here is a photo of Newcomb High School's first ever staff. Second from the left is principal Leon Touzel, our first ever principal.

Were you at Newcomb when these lovely people worked here?

Today is "Where are they now" Wednesday (and a way for me to introduce you to the current Newcomb SC leadership team).

Scott McLeod was a student at Newcomb from 1991 (year 8 ) to 1995 (Year 12). He went on to study teaching, specialising in PE and Maths. Having worked at other local schools, most recently Grovedale SC, he was appointed Assistant Principal at Newcomb just before the pandemic hit (Timing!), and in 2023 was appointed our 6th Principal!

Scott is now in the comfy office and has a focus on consistency with our students in regards to our school values - Learning, Respect and Working Together.

Many staff at the school at the moment are ex-students in both teaching and non-teaching roles. It is great that people feel comfortable enough to return to the school and bring with them newly found skills and experience.

The photo features Scott in the middle, flanked by our Assistant Principals Josh Grabowski and Kel Montano.

Hi everyone

A little while since our last post and we have a change of contact person for the Alumni group now. Thanks to Ingrid Marshall who has been our contact for the beginning of 2024.

Our new contact is Sue McArthur (yes, Ms Mac...) and I am happy to take this on as I probably remember you if you have been in the school since 1989!

We will be looking at growing our group to have more people we can invite to come and speak to our current students, possibly help our students out with work placement or just keep in touch and let us know all that you are contributing to this big, wide world.

Thanks and I look forward to working with you all.

Welcome to our Newcomb Secondary College Alumni Community!
Newcomb Secondary College (formerly Newcomb High School) has a proud history spanning more than 50 years. Many students have passed through these gates since 1969.
We’re keen to find Newcomb alumni studying or working in a wide variety of areas to invite them back to school to speak to our current students about their career pathways and give them practical tips about study and work.
Some alumni might even be able to offer a work experience placement to a current student.
Your experiences can help motivate students and open their eyes to opportunities they might never have thought of. We often have small panels of former students presenting from certain industries or have a guest speaker in to work with students who are particularly keen on a certain occupation eg. defence forces, marine biology/teaching/hairdressing/accounting/joinery/electrician/
hospitality etc.
Please like our page and share it with any former Newcomb students.
You can also:
- Add Newcomb Secondary College as your high school on LinkedIn
- Join our LinkedIn alumni group: www.linkedin.com/groups/13842238
- Phone Newcomb Secondary College on (03) 5248 1400 and ask for Alumni Manager Ingrid Marshall (class of '91)
- Email your contact details and career info to [email protected] letting me know if you'd like to be contacted when we are putting together panels of presenters or looking for someone to share about their career pathways in a particular industry. Our students and staff really enjoy meeting Alumni, and it can be great to share some of your favourite memories and stories! RECONNECT and SHARE!

The Newcomb Secondary College Alumni would like to acknowledge and congratulate 35 years of teaching service for Ms. Mac!

35 YEARS OF SERVICE!
Congratulations to Ms. Sue Mcarthur, or Ms. Mac as she is affectionately known, who recently reached an incredible 35 year milestone. Her teaching career has meant an unwavering commitment at Newcomb Secondary College where she is now teaching the next generation of previous students. Did Ms. Mac teach you?
