Best Start Family Day Care registered with Cheeky Pandas

The very hungry caterpillar is one of our favourite stories and it’s one we read everyday or even a few times each day. 😆 We’ve been talking a lot lately about the insects we find in the garden and the children are particularly interested in the butterflies and moths. We will be doing some caterpillar and butterfly themed art and craft over the next couple of weeks too and encouraging the children to follow and extend their interests and ideas.

The children have been interested in pointing out the birds we see in the garden and also learning about birds in the books we’ve been reading lately. They did a brilliant job of making these birds that are out of a story we read yesterday. We have some themed activities during the week too.

The children have been finishing off their creepy crawly Halloween spiders. We’re going to start on some more Halloween craft today. I can’t wait to see what they’ll pick to make next!

In the lead up to Halloween the children have started making decorations to display. They made spiders this week and can’t wait to make their homes look spooky for Halloween.

We’ve been working on identifying our names and also the letters. The children have been picking their name tags out of the box to stick on the board before snack time and lunch time. Some of the children were very clever in pointing out the some of the same letters in their friends’ names.
We’re practicing putting the letters in order. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of our favourite stories so the children were very enthusiastic about using the letters of their names to build a hungry caterpillar.

During our art and craft session on Friday the children decided to have a look on the Pinterest website to get some ideas. They decided to make these watermelon slices to match the watermelon in some of their lunches. Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning about healthy foods. We have some activities planned, learning to recognise food that is good for our bodies as well as food that we should only eat sometimes.

We’ve been learning to recognise our names and also the letters that make up our names. To begin with the children picked their name tags out of the basket and used them as a guide, placing the letters in order to make our rockets.

During story time we read ‘Pirate’s treasure’ and decided to make some of the sea creatures we saw in the book. The children decided to make these colourful fish in our art and craft session and they were really excited to show their mums and dads at pick up time.

We’re learning about the weather at the moment and the different seasons. The children made some beautiful pictures of the sun today and did some amazing artwork.
