We want to be shocked and horrified We want to exclaim shock and horror by this newscast.
Horrified always
Shocked - Sadly NO
As parents/ adults / caregivers we cannot
1. Bury our head in the sand and assure ourselves it will never happen to our children. ignorance is not bliss it is dangerous.
2.Continue to think that kids websites and kids games are ok. what your child watches and plays online and who your child talks with online . is just as important as who they spend face to face time with. Think about this ..,
3. Tell ourselves that we would know, what going on, when we may not know what to look for.
the online world is not like TV or video, it so NOT a SAFE place.
BEFORE YOUR CHILDREN START Playing Online
make sure they know
- [ ] About SAFE and UNSAFE feelings. SAFE is great. UNSAFE feelings online are not ok. if this happens they can talk with you. ( be available)
- [ ] Ensure your kids know about Early Warning Signs and what theirs are- This can be fun play BOOM BOOM balloon or pie face with them. SAFE games are fun, comfortable and they can. UNSAFE games can give feelings of uncertainty , nervousness and shock. these are Early Warning Signs.
- [ ] Embedd in your home and family -the safe and unsafe secret rule. Unsafe games or predators on unsafe games may demand or groom kids too keep things secret.Safe games are never a secret.

This is not “rare.”
Queensland police have charged a man accused of targeting children via social media and gaming platforms, coercing and grooming victims aged 7–15 into sending sexual images — over 23,000 pieces of material and 596 separate offences.
Let me say that again: Hundreds of victims. Multiple platforms. Messaged and groomed online.
This isn’t about apps being bad. It’s about a digital ecosystem that normalises contact before oversight.
If you don’t understand:
- How predators create fake identities
- Why shame stops disclosure
- Why legal systems can lag behind tech
… then you are letting ignorance replace education.

How can we increase CHILD SAFETY ?
What else can we do?
What are we missing ?
WE ARE MISSING the opportunity to maximise the PROTECTIVE FACTORS in a child’s environment.
YOU- YOUR TEAM- YOU have the potential to be the difference in child safety. YOU need the skills to be an effective PROTECTIVE Factor in child’s life.
RELYING ON TEACHING the child and the CHILD learning personal safety strategies, IS NOT ENOUGH and does not equate to the adults around them being protective factors.
SKILL UP BE THE BEST PROTECTIVE FACTOR YOU CAN BE.

Paedophiles exploiting Australia’s broken childcare system – we’ve been sounding the warning alarm for quite some time.
Adele Ferguson’s latest investigation on ABC’s Four Corners is devastating, but sadly not unexpected.
For years, PBWest has been advocating for better training, cultural change, and real support and training for the educators and carers on the frontline. A quick scroll through our posts confirms it: we’ve been cajoling, encouraging, and sometimes pleading with centres to go beyond the bare minimum.
Here’s what we hear every single time we run a fundamental train:
✅ Childcare workers want more training.
✅ They want more staff and a supportive environment.
✅ They’re the first to flag what’s broken and how to make it safer.
Yet too often they’re forced to compromise best practice against owners who treat childcare as a lucrative business model, often resulting in high turnover, and cost cutting
In every centre I’ve trained, staff ask for the comprehensive 2-day Protective Behaviours program. They know this is the training that:
🔹 Shifts culture
🔹 Embeds protective factors
🔹 Equips them to spot, respond, and prevent harm
And yes—the majority of centres that commit to this training are not-for-profits. It’s in their values - children first.
