33rd Annual Prathibha Cultural event – A Celebration of Sri Lankan Heritage
The 33rd Annual Prathibha Cultural event, organised by the Sri Lankan Art Circle in affiliation with the Sri Lanka Buddhist Monastery, was held on 7 June 2025 at the Moreton Bay College Auditorium, under the esteemed patronage of Most Venerable Wattegama Dhammawasa Mahanayaka Thero.
The evening was a spectacular cultural showcase, presenting a dynamic blend of traditional, modern, and contemporary dance, powerful drumming, and captivating drama all honouring the rich tapestry of Sri Lankan heritage.
The event was graced by Mr. Milton Dick, Speaker of the Federal Parliament, as Chief Guest, with Ms. Margie Nightingale, State Member for Inala, as Guest of Honour. A special highlight was the presence of Mr. Sahan Ranwala, the visionary leader of the renowned Ranwala Balakaya, whose support and inspiration elevated the evening.
Prathibha 2025 was a resounding success, featuring over 200 performers, both children and adults, united in a joyous celebration of culture and community.

Annual Vesak Celebrations – Sri Lanka Buddhist Monastery, Brisbane
The Annual Vesak Celebrations of the Sri Lanka Buddhist Monastery, Brisbane were held on 17 May 2025, under the spiritual guidance of Most Venerable Wattegama Dhammawasa Mahanayaka Thero.
The monastery grounds transformed into a vibrant and serene Vesak Zone, featuring:
Stunning Vesak lanterns
A beautifully illuminated stupa
A colourful thorana
Creative exhibits and perahera by Yasodhara Sinhala and Dhamma School (YSDS) students
A food stall and danasala offering free meals
Heartfelt "Bakthi Gee" (devotional songs) performed by YSDS students and community members
The event was honoured by the presence of Ms. Margie Nightingale, State Member for Inala, as the Chief Guest, with Ms. Jessica Pugh, Member for Mount Ommaney, and Councillor Charles Strunk, Forest Lake Ward, attending as Guests of Honour.
The celebration was a resounding success, uniting the wider Brisbane community in a spirit of peace, compassion, and cultural harmony.

The annual Children’s New Year Festival at the Sri Lanka Buddhist Monastery Brisbane was celebrated on April 12th, under the guidance of Most Ven. Wattegama Dhammawasa Mahanayaka Thero. Students from Yasodhara Sinhala and Dhamma School took part in the festivities, experiencing traditional New Year customs, enjoying games, and tasting festive foods in a joyful and cultural atmosphere.
