🇯🇵 St Stanislaus' College Japan Language and Culture Tour 🇯🇵 Days 5 and 6.
A meaningful moment of the tour took place in Hiroshima, where St Stanislaus' College presented 1,000 paper cranes at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The cranes were crafted over several years in the College’s Japanese classes, and were offered as a gesture of respect and remembrance for Sadako Sasaki and all those affected by the atomic bombing. What a thoughtful gesture ✨
Earlier in the day, students explored the tranquil Shukkeien Garden, taking time to appreciate its beauty and stillness. The day concluded with a hands-on cultural experience as students made their own traditional okonomiyaki pancakes.
The previous day in Kyoto provided a vibrant contrast, filled with cultural discovery. The group visited Fushimi Inari Taisha, walking through its iconic torii gates, before taking in the beauty of the Golden Pavilion. ⛩️ 🏯 At the Samurai and Ninja Museum, students explored Japan’s historical social structures, weapons, and clans through engaging, interactive experiences. 🥷
The evening concluded at Gion Corner, where the group enjoyed a showcase of traditional Japanese performing arts, including a standout comedic performance.
“Overall, the day was filled with laughter, great food, and just enjoying the atmosphere and true beauty of Japan.” – Campbell, Student

St Stanislaus’ College Japan Language and Culture Tour – Days 3 & 4 🇯🇵
The adventure continues, with students experiencing even more of Japan’s rich culture and history. In Tokyo, the group visited the Yushukan Shrine and Museum, offering a different perspective on World War II, before heading to Tokyo Station for some shopping and lunch.
A highlight was a hands-on bento cooking class, where students crafted their own traditional lunchboxes. As Will and Harry shared, “Guided by some very patient instructors, we created a traditional Japanese lunchbox with a rice-shaped bear and a heart-shaped omelette.”
On Day 4, the journey continued aboard the bullet train to Nara, with a special moment spotting Mt Fuji along the way.
In Nara, students met the famous deer, with Jack and Jimmy noting, “We met many respectful deer that would greet us with a bow, and we would give back a good old back scratch.” The group also visited Todai-ji Temple, home to the largest bronze Buddha (Daibutsu) inside the largest wooden building in the world, and explored Kasuga Grand Shrine, discovering over 200 lanterns.
The day finished with a delicious hot pot dinner, where students selected and cooked their own ingredients. As Jack and Jimmy summed it up, “Some good laughs and arguably the best food of the trip were a great way to end the day.”
