‘Quick crafts’ in the library during Friday lunch saw students create underground tunnels and illustrate mini beasts as one of our final activities during Science Week.

Thank you to our teachers and SSOs who supported our students curiosity, wonder and creativity over the week. We know the inquiring nature of the students at BPS has driven some great questions, investigations and discussions over this week and will continue on for these lifelong learners.

The Year 6 students from Room 1 have really been really digging Science Week!
There was plenty of hands-on learning happening from our scientists from Miss A's class as they headed out to investigate the soil on our oval with Miss Ashleigh!

Students explored the temperature and texture of the soil and carefully searched for signs of living things. Their digging uncovered ants, worms, beetles and even witchetty grubs!
One group made an exciting discovery when they dug deep enough to reach clay! This naturally led to another investigation as they discovered they could mould and shape it with their hands. A wonderful example of Science Week learning driven by curiosity, observation, discovery and plenty of wondering about the world beneath our feet!

Science Week creativity! During a lunchtime Science Week activity, students experimented with mixing natural materials to create their own paints. Some curious creators took their investigation even further, adding flour to transform their colourful mixtures into playdough!

A wonderful example of experimentation, creativity and student-led discovery in action.

Our littlest learners joined in the Science Week – Seeds of Knowledge fun at Playgroup this week! Children explored seeds, beans, plants and flowers through hands-on sensory play and creativity. They rolled and shaped clay before adding different seeds, beans and colourful pieces to create their own beautiful nature-inspired artworks. Along the way there were plenty of opportunities to touch, notice, sort, create, talk and wonder. These activities are designed by Olivia with the aim of building early science understandings through play and exploration.

We love seeing curious little minds discovering that science is all around us! 🌿🔍💚

You may remember that a mysterious suitcase appeared in Room 8 and Room 19 with one important instruction: do not open it!
Students used their imaginations to wonder, question and share ideas about who had delivered it, where it had come from and what might be hiding inside. The suitcase even inspired some wonderfully creative narrative writing.

After a week and a half of anticipation, the call finally came - it was time to open it! Inside, students discovered a collection of books all about imagination. What a wonderful way to spark curiosity, creativity and inquiry.
We can’t wait to see where their imaginations take them next!

This time next week we will be enjoying our creative bookish students parade around the front courts in costumes inspired by their favourite story characters.

So whip out the craft paints, some ribbon and save the cardboard boxes and get those kids creating. We can't wait to see our students fabulous fits!
