Bush Kids on Sanford
🚒🔥 A VERY SPECIAL VISIT FROM OUR LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS! 🔥🚒

Yesterday, we had the wonderful Eaton-Australind Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service visit us at Bush Kids on Sanford, and there was so much excitement as the fire trucks arrived! 🚒❤️

The firefighters began by talking with the children about fire safety. We learnt about what to do if we see a fire, the importance of calling 000 in an emergency, and the different uniforms and protective clothing firefighters wear depending on the type of fire they are attending. 👨‍🚒🧑‍🚒

We also learnt about the importance of staying low to the ground when there is smoke. The children had the opportunity to practise getting down low and crawling underneath a table — turning an important safety message into a hands-on learning experience.

🔥 Then it was time to put our learning into practice!

The firefighters assisted us with a simulated fire evacuation drill, using a non-toxic smoke machine in our Bush Café to create simulated smoke. From inside our playroom, the children were able to look through the window, identify the “smoke” and recognise that something was happening.

Our fire evacuation was then called, and everyone evacuated the Centre together — children, educators, firefighters and some of our families who had joined us for the morning.

Once we had safely reached our evacuation point, we followed our procedures to check that every child, educator and visitor was present and accounted for. It was such a valuable opportunity for the children to experience and participate in a realistic evacuation while being supported by our local firefighters. 🚨

And then came the FUN! ❤️🚒

The children met Freddy the Fire Engine, watched the flashing lights, heard the siren 🚨, dressed up in firefighter jackets and helmets, and even had a turn using the fire hose! 💦🔥

We finished our visit with a very special group photo together in front of the fire truck and the children received stickers. 📸🚒

What an incredible morning filled with fun, excitement and so much meaningful learning. Experiences like this help children build confidence and develop an understanding of emergency procedures and the important role our emergency services play in keeping our community safe.

A very special THANK YOU to the Eaton-Australind Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service for generously giving up your time to visit us and share your knowledge, skills and experiences with our children. ❤️

We are incredibly grateful to have such wonderful community members supporting the learning and safety of our Bush Kids. 🌿🚒🔥

Thank you for helping our little Bush Kids learn how to stay safe! ❤️

🌼 Happy First Day of Spring and National Wattle Day! 🌼
Our Centre’s celebrated in style.
Wattle is Australia’s national floral emblem and a beautiful symbol of resilience, hope and new beginnings—qualities that sit at the heart of Bush Kids.

The wattle featured in our Bush Kids logo reflects our connection to the Australian landscape and our belief that, with strong roots, nurturing relationships and the right environment, every child can grow, flourish and shine.

Just as wattle brightens the bush at the beginning of spring, our children bring joy, energy and possibility to our centres every day.

Here’s to a new season of discovery, growth and flourishing together.

🌿☀️ So Much Outdoor Learning at Bush Kids on Sanford! ☀️🌿

Our outdoor classroom has been buzzing with exploration, creativity, movement and hands-on learning! 💚

💦 The children have loved spending time playing in the creek and engaging in water and sensory play, exploring different textures, movement and possibilities through play.

🌱 Our vegetable gardens have also been keeping us busy! The children have been weeding, caring for the garden and planting some new additions ready for spring. We were especially excited to harvest our sugar snap peas 🫛 that the children planted earlier in the season. This created wonderful opportunities to learn about how sugar snap peas grow, where our food comes from, and the importance of caring for our gardens and environment.

🏃‍♀️ Our outdoor obstacle courses have provided plenty of opportunities for active play, with the children climbing, balancing, jumping, crawling and navigating their way through different challenges. These experiences support the development of large motor skills, balance, coordination, body awareness, confidence and perseverance.

🌸 Imaginative play has been flourishing with beautiful flower tea parties, while our sandpit has been transformed into an exciting dinosaur world full of creativity, storytelling and discovery. 🦕🦖

🍃 We have also enjoyed quieter moments of mindfulness, using natural materials to create beautiful nature mandalas and transient art. The children carefully selected, arranged and rearranged their natural treasures, encouraging creativity, concentration and an appreciation of the beauty and patterns found in nature.

There is always something to discover in our outdoor classroom! Through gardening, movement, sensory exploration, imaginative play and connecting with nature, the children are learning with their whole bodies and developing a strong sense of connection with the world around them. 🌏🌿💚
