Today was an inspiring day at St. Patrick's Special School as our dedicated staff had the opportunity to delve into innovative and evidence-based teaching methods. Our focus was on collecting, analysing, and utilising data to enhance teaching and learning practices, ultimately contributing to our incredible learners' ongoing growth and success.
We were privileged to have Jane Farrall, our esteemed critical friend, lead us in an exploration of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Specifically, we honed our skills in using the AssistiveWare application, Proloquo. This invaluable session emphasized the significance of fostering autonomous communication and providing our students with choices beyond mere compliance.
During the day, we deepened our understanding of Comprehensive Literacy, immersing ourselves in the world of predictable chart writing and exploring a wide range of writing tools. We also delved into tools for assessing and moderating writing, ensuring that we continue striving toward our goal of enabling all students to communicate autonomously in their own unique way.
Our ultimate aim is to empower our students, allowing them to express themselves and become active participants in their own education. Through fostering inclusivity and developing student voice, we provide them with a sense of agency and ownership in their incredible learning journey.
