“The Smell of Christmas”

This is one of our fun experiences for this season! Our Brilliant Stars took their time to stimulate their sense of smell by sniffing these christmas scents. While we grown-ups might wrinkle our noses, our Brilliant Stars are using their senses of smell to know more about Christmas as scents most of the time is associated with different events and memories. We also took this opportunity to learn about different sense of taste as we all know how our smell and tasting are well connected. ⭐️

Today’s snapshot:

Brilliant Stars children had fun participating in “Colour Sorting” game/learning experience:

Using colourful tweezers, coordinating plastic bowls and colourful cubes we utilised our problem solving skills and flexed our fine motor skills too. It’s strawberry 🍓 harvest season! Our open planned nature garden has promoted learning opportunities for children to care for the plants and observe their seasonal changes. Connection with nature is embedded in Brilliant Stars daily practice.

What do children learn?
1. Fine motor skills: Picking strawberries requires delicate hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills, helping children develop dexterity.
2. Patience: Waiting for ripe strawberries to be ready for harvest teaches children the value of patience and delayed gratification.
3. Responsibility: Assigning tasks within a group encourages responsibility as children take ownership of their harvesting duties.
4. Teamwork: Working in small groups fosters teamwork, communication, and cooperation as children collaborate to achieve a common goal.
5. Environmental awareness: It can also help kids understand where their food comes from and the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture.
6. Sensory exploration: Harvesting strawberries engages the senses, allowing children to explore textures, colors, and tastes.
7. Math concepts: Counting, sorting, and measuring strawberries can introduce basic math concepts in a practical context.
8. Appreciation for nature: Being outdoors and interacting with nature can instill a greater appreciation for the environment in children.
