In the environment of drought in regional Queensland, QRRRWN have created a project aimed to foster the current strengths within rural communities across all generation to build resilience and cohesion for the sustainable future of its towns. Recognising that creative thinking, collaboration between the generations within a community and the ability to share ideas with others is the key to ensurin
g the future of our state, this project is a step in the right direction. Alison Mobbs, President of QRRRWN said, “ This project is innovative in bringing cross- generational groups together to create videos exploring various aspects of the impact of drought. The videos will showcase the strength in community in these tough times. We have been fortunate enough to secure funding to involve groups from twelve locations right across the drought area.”
“What’s really exciting is that the groups will have the opportunity to connect and learn from each other through sharing ideas and experiences of resilience, interdependence, networking and building relationships.” Said the QRRRWN President. The groups really have free reign to present their views about how the community, environment, economy, social groups, clubs, schools etc have been impacted. The works can be funny or serious. The objective is to get involved, young and old, collaborate, share ideas and learn from each other in the process.”
“There is a huge power in reflecting on and sharing our experiences and sharing stories about both the good times and the bad. Too often we forget that our story and our experience can benefit others,” said Ms Mobbs. Project Facilitator Melinda Wells said she is excited to see what the teams will come up with. “We haven’t even formally launched the project and already we have several groups interested. It is great to be a part of the team bringing this idea to life.”
Melinda Wells said, “Young people are constantly messing around filming stuff on their phones: we want them to channel that creativity into something for their community. Using youtube our experiences can be shared in our own communities, right around the country and even internationally. How exciting is that?”
