It’s hard to believe we’re heading into our final term of the year! We’ve loved watching our little learners grow in confidence, independence and all those important school readiness skills. 💛

Over 40,000 people watched our last Reel - and more than 1,200 shared it. Why? Because Kindergarten has changed.

As teachers who have taught Kindergarten, we’ve seen it firsthand. The expectations are higher, the curriculum is fuller and the pace is faster - yet parents are still being told, “They’ll learn that at school.””

Children should play. We are not trying to turn preschool into school or push children ahead. But we cannot ignore the growing gap between children’s play-based early years - at home, daycare or preschool - and what they are expected to manage from their very first day of Kindergarten.

That gap is exactly why our programs exist.

For a short time each week, we gently introduce children to the routines, independence and foundational skills they will soon encounter - through play, movement, exploration and intentional teaching.

We’re not pushing children ahead.

We’re building a bridge into big school.

We’re currently finalising Term 4 enrolments with our existing families, and at this stage we’re expecting to have only around 6 spots available (as we are open g a new class for Term 4) across our School Readiness classes.

Sometimes the biggest progress is in the little things. ✏️💛

Looking back at our Term 1 handwriting assessments and comparing them to where our children are now in Term 3 is pretty special.

For some children, that growth means independently writing their whole name. For others, it’s learning where to start a letter, moving their pencil in the correct direction, forming a circle correctly, or beginning to create recognisable letters and shapes.

These might seem like little things, but they are big milestones in the lead-up to writing.

Handwriting doesn’t happen overnight. Before children can confidently write letters and words, they are developing pencil control, fine motor strength, directionality, letter formation and, importantly, lots and lots of practice.

And every child’s starting point and progress looks different.

That’s why we assess along the way - not to expect perfection, but to see growth, recognise what each child is ready for next and celebrate just how far they’ve come.

There is so much that comes before writing those very first words. 💛

We’re now halfway through Term 3, and for many of our children, this moment has been months and months in the making.

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve been gently building the foundations through play, games and hands-on experiences - listening for sounds, recognising letters, strengthening little hands, developing pencil control, learning how sounds come together and, most importantly, building confidence.

To the children, it often just feels like they’re playing and having fun. But underneath all of that play, so much learning is happening.

And now we’re beginning to see all those little pieces come together. ✏️

At this stage, I’m not looking for perfect spelling or perfect handwriting. What matters most to me is that a child feels confident enough to think, “I can have a go.”

They’re listening for the sounds they can hear, putting pencil to paper and giving it a try….without worrying about getting it perfect.

We never rush children to this point. We nurture the skills underneath, give them plenty of time and build their confidence along the way. Then, when they’re ready, those first little words begin to appear.

And watching them realise, “I can write!” is pretty special. 🥹💛

School Holiday Program Update 🤍

Well… that was quick! Our upcoming School Holiday Program has officially booked out in just a day and a half.

A huge thank you to all of our families who have booked in. We love putting these holiday days together and it’s always so nice to see how much the children enjoy coming back each holidays.

We keep our groups intentionally small, so places do tend to fill quickly.

If you missed out, you’re very welcome to join the waitlist as spots can sometimes become available closer to the date.

I never started this page to chase numbers.

I started it because I wanted to help children walk into Kindergarten feeling confident, and to give parents practical, teacher-backed advice they could actually use.

To every parent, teacher and family who has followed along, shared a post, trusted Little Minds in Motion, or supported this little business…thank you.

There’s a reason we created our Design & Create program… 💡✨

Children aren’t just making something “cute” to take home.

They’re learning to think.

Every Design & Create session encourages children to imagine, plan, experiment, solve problems and bring their ideas to life. Along the way they’re building skills they’ll use for years to come.

Last week we designed our own night light/lanterns. 🌙

While it looked like a fun craft activity, the learning was so much deeper.

✨ Creative thinking
✨ Problem-solving
✨ Fine motor development
✨ Following multi-step instructions
✨ Planning and decision making
✨ Perseverance when things don’t go to plan
✨ Confidence in their own ideas

Young children have incredible imaginations. Their brains are developing so rapidly, making this the perfect time to nurture creativity, curiosity and a love of learning.

At Little Minds in Motion, we believe children learn best when they’re given opportunities to explore, create, test ideas and discover that there isn’t always just one “right” answer.

Because today’s little creators become tomorrow’s innovators. 🤍

WE’RE HIRING! 🤍🍎

As Little Minds in Motion continues to grow, we’re looking for a wonderful qualified Primary Teacher to join our team.

📚 Monday & Tuesday afternoons (after school)
👧 Small Kindergarten groups (maximum of 4 students)
📍 Crows Nest

This is a beautiful opportunity for a teacher who loves working with Kindergarten students and enjoys slowing things down, revisiting concepts and helping children truly understand what they’re learning at school.

The programs are already written, the resources are prepared, and everything is ready to go. You’ll be fully supported as you step into the role, while still having the opportunity to build wonderful relationships with your students and make the classes your own.

We’re looking for someone who is:
🤍 A qualified Primary Teacher
🤍 Passionate about early literacy and numeracy
🤍 Warm, engaging and nurturing
🤍 Looking for meaningful after-school teaching in a supportive team

One of the biggest lessons I learnt as a classroom teacher was this:

Children don’t all learn at the same pace.

Some grasp a new concept the first time they see it. Others need to hear it again, practise it differently, and revisit it over several weeks before it clicks.

Neither child is “behind” - they simply need a different amount of time.

Kindergarten is an incredibly busy and fast-paced year. Teachers work so hard, but with such a full curriculum, there often isn’t the luxury of staying on one concept for as long as some children need. Sometimes, you simply have to keep moving.

That belief is why I created Little Minds in Motion.

In our small groups, we have the flexibility to slow down, explicitly teach concepts, revisit them as often as needed, and make sure children have a solid understanding before moving on.

Because when children truly understand something, they’re far more likely to remember it, apply it, and enjoy learning.

Every child deserves the time they need. 🤍
