On Saturday 29th August, Phoebe Krygger from Year 10 performed as a Principal Vocalist at the Victorian State School Spectacular. The VSSS was held at John Cain Arena and was the culmination of 8 months of hard work for Phoebe. Every weekend she went to rehearsals in Collingwood to learn song structures, melodies, harmonies and choreographed dance routines. Singing in front of thousands at John Cain Arena was a fantastic opportunity for Phoebe and we couldn’t be more proud of her. 🌟 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗩𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Jaylina Van Sanden 11F, who has been awarded a Marrung Education Scholarship.
The Marrung Education Scholarship recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have demonstrated exceptional potential to succeed in their senior secondary education and future pathway. Jaylina applied for the scholarship during Year 10, and after a highly competitive selection process, was one of only 30 students across Victoria to receive the scholarship.

Receiving this scholarship is a significant achievement. Applications are assessed by a selection panel comprising representatives from the Victorian Department of Education and the Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated (VAEAI). Students are selected based on a rigorous process that considers:

• Commitment to completing a senior secondary pathway or program
• Involvement in the Aboriginal community
• Resilience and motivation
• Goals and aspirations for the future
• Learning reports and school attendance
• Recommendations from school and community referees

Jaylina's success reflects her dedication to learning, her resilience, her commitment to her community, and the bright future she is creating for herself. We acknowledge the support of her family, community, and school staff who have encouraged and supported her throughout her journey.

Congratulations, Jaylina, on this well-deserved recognition. We look forward to seeing all that you achieve in the years ahead.

Last month our Arts domain launched a new lunchtime activity club called 'Design club' where students were introduced to typography, and started to design their fonts. As we progress, students will start to apply a variety of materials to their designed typography by using copic markers, water colour, fineliners and more for a more detailed outcome. We will then start looking at designing the typeface using digital design software and converting the manual design to a digital design. We cannot wait to see what students create and we look forward to seeing you all there at the next Design club.

A big thank you to our student Arts leaders for their support, and help. They've been incredible! What a great turnout!

On Monday 27th of July our Arts domain kick started Arts Club at lunchtime where students did drawing from observation (still life flowers) using a variety of materials such as oil, dry pastels, coloured pencils. It was great to see such a big turnout and thank you to all our student arts leaders who supported the event, each and every one of you were amazing! Arts Club will be a permanent activity at Alkira, and will be held every lunchtime in room Y11 on Mondays.

What an incredible day at our 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲 on Friday 19 June!

Our brave staff and College Captains took on the dunk tank challenge, plunging into icy water to help raise funds for an incredibly important cause. The event was filled with laughter, community spirit and plenty of freezing moments!

A huge congratulations to our Student Leaders, who led from the front by planning, organising and delivering the event. From coordinating the teacher and College Captain dunk tank to running a range of fundraising and wellbeing activities throughout the day, they demonstrated outstanding leadership, teamwork and commitment to making a positive difference.

Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we are proud to have raised $𝟰,𝟱𝟬𝟬 for 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗠𝗡𝗗, supporting vital research and helping in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, participated, donated or cheered from the sidelines. Your support made this event such a fantastic success, and we couldn't be prouder of the leadership and community spirit on display.
