Today Mr 5 is moving milestones! we had fun exploring onset and rime—a key step in learning to read! We broke words into parts, like /l/ + -ip to make lip, and practiced isolating sounds (hearing each sound) and blending sounds (putting them back together).
It was wonderful to see the him starting to recognise patterns and build words with confidence!
💬 Ask your child at home:
Can you think of other -ip words?
Can you stretch out the sounds in dog?
You might be surprised by what they can do!

📚 Early Literacy Fun with Zingo! 🎉
Zingo is a fantastic way to boost your child’s early reading and word recognition skills while having fun! 🧠✨ This fast-paced matching game helps kids connect words with pictures, building confidence and expanding vocabulary.

Tip for Parents: Play together and encourage your child to say the words aloud as they match them. This helps with both word recognition and pronunciation!
🟩 Example: Match words like "cat," "dog," and "house" with the corresponding pictures. Each match is a mini victory!
Zingo makes learning to read exciting and interactive! 🙌

Building a solid number sense from an early age is one of the most important things you can give your child. Number sense isn’t just about recognizing numbers; it’s about incorporating early concepts of shape, colours, pictures, understanding how numbers work, how they relate to each other, and how they show up in the world around us. The earlier your child starts developing a strong number sense, the more comfortable and confident they will be with math as they grow.
Today we used hands on materials, interactive games and incorporating the interactive board to consolidate and asssess their understanding on our lesson on patterns.

TIP: Start by identifying simple patterns around the house – in nature, on clothing, or even while cooking! Ask your child, “What comes next in this pattern?” or “How would you continue this pattern using different objects or numbers?”

Example: Line up toys, fruits, or even stickers in a pattern like red, blue, red, blue... and let your child continue it. You can also try number patterns, like 2, 4, 6, 8 – asking your child to predict what comes next! 🔢
Small activities like this are a great way to nurture early math skills while having fun. Let the pattern play begin! 🌟

What did you come up with... 4? 5? 6?
Did you know there are 9 different spelling combinations to make the long /ae/ sound in words
a
a-e (bake)
ay (say)
ai (rain)
ei (reindeer)
ea (steak)
eigh (eight)
ey (obey)
et (ballet) silent t

Mastering the vowel sounds are vital to helps kids decode words accurately and identify spelling mistakes in their reading and writing more confidently. Here Miss 6 is recognising patterns that the /ay/ is commonly at the end of words, by substituting the initial letter/sound.

If your child is in Kinder, Prep ,1, 2 or 3- and reading and writing is progressing slowly, they might just need more time, structure and a little more extra support.
