Child Safety at RPA Studios
You may have noticed that our social media pages aren’t filled with photos of our students every week.
That’s intentional.
At RPA, child safety isn’t just about what happens inside the studio. It also means thinking carefully about what information we put online about the children and young people in our care.
We absolutely love celebrating our students, their achievements and all the wonderful things happening at RPA, but we don’t need to share everything.
We are particularly careful with our younger students. We will never post a young child’s name along with information about the day they dance, their regular class or their weekly timetable.
With our older students, you may occasionally see a first name used when we’re celebrating an achievement or a public performance. We still think carefully about what other information is included in that post.
And why is that?
Because when you put a child’s name, photo, location and regular routine together online, you can unintentionally give people far more information than they need to have.
A seemingly innocent post can reveal what a child looks like, where they will be and when they are likely to be there every week.
We also try not to constantly photograph children during their classes. Our teachers are there to teach and our students should be able to come to dance, learn, make mistakes, have fun and just be kids without everything needing to become social media content.
Of course you will still see photos and videos from RPA. We are incredibly proud of our students and love sharing their achievements, especially public performances, competitions and special moments. We just try to do it thoughtfully, with the appropriate permissions and with child safety always in mind.
Like everyone, we continue to learn and grow as our understanding of online safety develops. The way we use social media has changed over the years, and as we learn more about protecting children online, our practices continue to evolve too.
Sometimes protecting children online isn’t just about what you post. It’s also about knowing what not to.
