Our speakers were a highlight of the National First Nations Education Conference!

Delegates loved hearing from Larissa Taylor, a proud Gumbaynggirr woman and educator based on Kaurna Country in South Australia.

With extensive experience across higher education, community services, youth justice, child protection, cultural training and Aboriginal health education, Larissa brought a wealth of knowledge and lived experience to the conversation.

Her work is grounded in truth telling, cultural integrity and relational accountability, supporting educators to embed First Nations knowledges in ways that are respectful, meaningful and authentic.

It was the kind of session that leaves you thinking, reflecting and ready to take meaningful action back into your own education setting. ❤️💛🖤

Last night, our conference co-host Deborah Hoger from Riley Callie Resources had the opportunity to speak at the Sunshine Coast First Nations Business Showcase and share a little about the journey behind the National First Nations Education Conference.

With Indigenous Business Month underway, it was a timely reminder of just how powerful First Nations businesses can be when we collaborate, back one another and create opportunities together.

The conference is proudly First Nations-led, bringing together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, educators, businesses and organisations from across Australia.

After an incredible inaugural conference in Meanjin this year, we’re already looking ahead to Sydney 2027, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming. 🖤💛❤️

We were proud to hear from Michael Passi, who shared powerful insights on the missing piece to the cultural capability puzzle - Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

Michael challenged us to look beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to cultural capability and recognise the unique histories, cultures, identities and lived experiences of Torres Strait Islander peoples.

His message was a valuable reminder that genuine cultural capability means listening, learning and making space for perspectives that have too often been overlooked.

Reconciliation in our schools and services was a big focus at the 2026 conference, and we were lucky to hear from both Reconciliation Australia and The Koori Curriculum on these topics - exploring how RAP's can move beyond good intentions and become a practical framework for organisations to build stronger relationships, create opportunities and take meaningful action towards reconciliation.

A great reminder that reconciliation is not just a document or a plan, it’s about action, accountability and ongoing commitment. 💛🖤❤️

Did you take part in our collaborative artwork by Lakkari Pitt?

During our event, we invited our community to contribute to a special collaborative artwork created by Lakkari Pitt; bringing together individual voices, experiences and creativity to become part of something bigger.

There is incredible power in bringing Aboriginal art into education spaces. Art can create opportunities to learn, connect and have meaningful conversations about Aboriginal culture, Country, history and identity. It can help transform learning environments into spaces where culture is visible, valued and celebrated.

Lakkari’s collaborative artwork is a beautiful reminder that when we create together, we create more than a piece of art, we create connection, conversation and a shared story.

Jess brought such valuable knowledge, insight and perspective to our conversations around reconciliation in education, sharing ideas that encouraged us to think deeply about how we can embed First Nations perspectives, culture and truth-telling into our everyday practice.
