While we do give Parkinson’s a lot of axe, as a person with Early Onset Parkinson’s Tristan has a lot of things to juggle, including working full-time as a researcher at The University of Western Australia focusing on satellite, drone and AI data for ecological programs.

Growing up hiking throughout Australia, Tristan has a deep love for our natural treasures. This project is a dream come true for him; a chance to make a real difference to an icon of Western Australia that is under considerable threat.

While having Parkinson’s dictates a large part of Tristan’s day-to-day life, and the life of those close to him, it does not define who he is.
Living with a disability is exactly that. Living. Look past the disability and see the person.

Day 2 on the Vyalev Parkinson's medication pump by AbbVie. Going amazingly well, just tweaking the rate to get the dose right.

While in one of my lower medication times over the day, we took part in a 'gait test' at NeuRA - Neuroscience Research Australia as part of one of the many research programs being undertaken there.

And pump activated! Working well, no issues or side effects. Just take a bit to get the dose right.

April is World Parkinson's Awareness Month. I've been pretty quiet the past while on the socials because, to be honest, it's been a really tough year.

EDIT: this video is not a quick (16 min) or easy watch. But it would mean a lot if you can take the time to see the whole story.

In November I was honoured to present at Perth Rotary - Western Australia, covering the various axe-ventures in 2025, as well as some promising research developments. It's a bit raw at times because, while we try to have fun where we can, having Parkinson's is not fun, for me or my support network. Hence it’s taken a while for me to be ready to share it.

Over the past year in particular, I have been struggling with some of the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's (i.e. mental and emotional. PD is a dopamine brain condition after all) and my family, friends and colleagues have born the brunt of it.

It is now looking likely that a significant part of these worsening non-motor symptoms over the past nearly 3 years may have actually been due to one of my medications...

Thanks the superb work of Parkinson's Western Australia, I'm due to start a new treatment protocol soon that is looking promising for both my motor and non-motor symptoms. For the first time in a long time, I have a small amount of hope for the future, and fingers crossed can share some good news with you soon.

Know that my situation is not uncommon:
- 1 in 200 Australians has Parkinson's
- 1 in 5 cases are diagnosed before the age of 50.

Please share my story to raise awareness, and donate to support services or research of you can.

We've been a. bit quiet since the Pacific Regionals Tour.

Tristan has been learning first-hand about the 'non-motor' symptms of Parkinson's. Turns out that a having brain condition can affect you mentally and emotionallly too. Who'd have thought?🤔

So we hope you see you all soon. In the meantime, remember to be kind to each other.

Everyone has their own issues they're dealing with, and you never know what is has cost someone to get to where they are.

While much delayed, it was a privilege to be able to present the Pacific Regionals Sir Axe-a-lot award to Zoe “Hatchet” Kellam last night while they were in Perth!

Once again, the final tally of big axes to thrown over the weekend was close, and the tiebreaker rounds made the difference… so if you’re angling to win this award, put on a good show for the crowd with plenty of tied rounds and games!
